1988 BMW M3

In April, during its Essen Sale, RM Sotheby's will auction this splendid white 1988 BMW M3. No price yet but that should be around 70,000 euros.

When we're young, all my friends and I wanted this car as soon as we got our license to go out. Only in dream :-)...

History of the BMW M3

The BMW M3 was BMW's answer to Mercedes 190E 2.3-16 Cosworth, to stay competitive in Touring Car Racing (the rules for this competition stipulating also that 5,000 examples should be built in the first year of production).

The M3 was presented in 1985 at Frankfurt Motor Show and it was a success with victories at world renowned races (24 Hours Nurburgring, World Touring Car Championship Driver’s Title in 1987...). It was only available in coupé and convertible body styles. In 1988, BMW started delivering US spec examples of the M3 to North America.

Specification

With its BMW S14 inline-4 engine producing 192 hp, the M3 can reach 100 kmh in just 7 seconds with a top speed of 225 kmh. Beautiful model finished in white...
