Wind, waves, lots of catfish and a headache that feels like a hangover

in #catfishfishing6 years ago

Last night was almost entirely spent at fishing on water by me and another three fellow fishermen. It wasn't our first "night out" like this one, but it was the most rewarding one. All four of us caught about 40 catfishes weighing between one and three kilograms, which is not much on the catfish category, but very entertaining to spend a night out. One very cold and windy comparing with the day that passed though.

So, the story begins like this. We left the deck with the boat at about 20:00 and headed at about 2-3 kilometers, on water, to an area that is known for providing fishermen with catfish. It's actually the channel of the Danube where all the ships travel through the country. A busy lane I could say. The reason for the catfish to hang around there is the depth of the water which is between 14 and 40 meters from what we checked with the sonar. Unfortunately though we couldn't anchor in the 40 area because that's where the big ships travel through and we would risk too much anchoring there so we chose another place. My place actually, as I have chosen it.

Why did I chose it? Because we forgot to take the sonar's sensor from the car and somebody had to choose from memory a place to anchor and I had the good memory and inspiration last night. I chose that particular place where we fished and snapped this gorgeous sunset because I knew the water was above 20 meters and the bottom of the water was pretty plain with nothing to "eat or hooks" forever, like a sunken tree or rocks. Once anchored we unpacked our gear and started hooking the bait and cast all over near the boat. We used fen cricket by the way to trick that much catfish in one night.

The activity begun at about 20:30 and we took the anchor out at about 6:00 in the morning when the wind was too strong for us and we almost frozen. Well it was actually a metaphor, but the fish didn't seem to eat anymore as it did at the beginning and sometimes you have to know when to end the game. If we would have remained over there up until 8:00 we would probably have caught much more than that but I say it was enough what we had. The one in the pic uploaded below was the biggest at about 3 kg while we had some juniors also that actually chew the bait for nothing. I took only a few pictures on this fishing session because I had to constantly watch the fishing rod for signs of a pull form the bloody catfishes. Although catfish is the biggest fish that one can catch in the area it's pretty hard to hook him on time before it's eating your bait. It's definitely a smartass so one has to always have sharp eyes and never take the eyes from the fishing rod.

We did had bells ringing on the rods also when having strong bytes, but not all the times it was pulling hard on the line and due to the depth of the water, the currents and the wind and the moves of the boat sometimes you barely see the tip of the rod moving while the bell gives no signal. The time of glory when we had the most of them hooked was between 23:00 and 1:00 while before and after we just had one, once in a while. There were times when we had fish in two or three rods at the same time being a bit difficult to take them out. We do have proper lights on the boat, but with them on we would get a ton of mosquitoes so we only used flashlights when needed to avoid their bites. You can't escape fully alive from there though. They did left some marks whenever the light was on.

As a conclusion it was a nice fishing experience with a lot of action and fun, but it was the coldest with the most wind I had on a summer day. Due to that I think that I got myself a headache and an overall feeling of a hangover as a side effect of about ten hours of fishing, but it's another nice fishing memory stacked in my portfolio and saved for eternity here on Steem. I will probably have another "night out fishing" like this one in the future, but not any sooner. Over all it was a nice way to spend a weekends night though and it's definitely worth "the hangover". How was your weekend by the way?

Thanks for your attention,
Ace
