BEASTLY TALES

The Cats Tail

Pussycat, Pussycat, where are you going?
“I’m going to London, in a boat, rowing.”
Pussycat, Pussycat, where have you been?
“I’ve been to London, to see the Queen.”

Independent, cats like to be,
Yes, in control, and very free.
As we can see from these rhymes of old,
Pussycats don’t always do what their told.

At home we give homes to animals stray
We have dogs and a cat who have lost their way
Or rather they had been cruelly “dumped”
By person or persons who deserve to be thumped
There’s also a semi-wild cat who did show
Up at our place some time ago
He remains aloof, neither friend nor foe,
But seems to allow sufficient latitude.
That for food we leave to show some gratitude
Sometimes he waits in a bamboo grove,
Hiding away like a cunning cove.
Other days he is just not there
Gone off to some other lair.
We suppose, as they say, he’s “on the tiles”
Gone to seek damsels for miles and miles
And just when we think he won’t come back,
Up he turns, seems he has that knack.
Yes, he turns up again, out of the blue
Measuring us warily, hissing on cue
When his hectic schedule permits
Our wild cat returns and waits and sits
Awaiting us to fill his empty plate
So that his appetite he can sate
This semi-wild cat with hissing defence
Is not being rude, or showing offence
Experience has shown him, very sadly,
That some people will treat him badly.
So we take food for him to his place
And if he’s not there it’s no disgrace.

👨 It's true that I sometimes take care of wild cat meals, but some people try to break it.

Wild cat wild cat where have you been,
hiding in the shadows, so I'm not seen.
stalking, spying, lurking about,
cautious and curious no doubt,
One minute you see me, and the next you don't,
i'm a wanderer, a drifter, I come and go.
Mr banter, from your verandah can you see me?
In your garden can you hear me?
little do you know, I watch you come and go
so who really knows, when I will show.

This is my favourite out of all of your poems. How lovely that you rescue animals that need help, and yes, there's a lot of people out there that deserve to be thumped!!!!

A cat's normal pulse is 140-240 beats per minute, with an average of 195.
