Curator Cat Remembers: "Big," Who Was a Really BIG Cat!
Another lazy Sunday around the Curator Cat house — it's drizzly and windy outside, and the most prudent thing for a cat to do on a day like this is... take a nap!
Looking outside reminded me of our long gone cat friend "Big" who often didn't much care about the weather... even though he was definitely a creature of comfort.

Part Norwegian Forest Cat, part Maine Coon and part we-were-never-sure-what-but-possibly-teddy-bear, "Big" got his name from his considerable length and general 18-20lb stature, even though there was scarcely an ounce of fat on him.
He liked to sit our on the second story deck railing and survey the world around him, clearly the emperor of his domain.
Large — and perhaps even intimidating looking — Big was one of the gentlest and sweetest cats around, and pretty much never got into scuffles with other cats, perhaps because they realized he would simply SIT on them till they regretted their transgressions!

"Big" was never much of a fat cat... the best way to get a true feeling for his size was to try to pick him up, and he would just get loooo-o-o-o-nger and longer.

Thanks! He was quite a beautiful cat, and had had his own "fan club," for example whenever we went to the vet... people would flock around to see the big cat.

He never really "told" us his name like some cats do by their behavior and quirks... so he just ended up being "Big."

I had a cat named Boo Boo that looked almost exactly like him and he was part mancoon, he lived to the age of 18 and was a whopping 16 lbs when he died. His top weight was 20+ lbs. Lovely cat your Mr. Big!
He was a really good cat; great temperament! When my ex and I split, he went to live with her and continued to a ripe old age.

What a pretty big kitty! He's bigger than our Ollie. Here is a picture of Ollie from awhile back. He is the only cat bigger than Oscar and Owen. He is at least 15 pounds and all muscle too.

He looks like an awesome cat! I have a weakness for orange kitties... we had a big orange cat that died far too young from sudden acute kidney disease.

Aww sorry to hear Curator Cat. Ollie lost his brother Fitz last year to a blood parasite. But Ollie seems to get along with our 7 kittens when we let them out. He really loves Zeus and Ezra. Soon when we get all moved into our house, Ollie will be coming with us so in time I will have more pictures of him.
It's tough when they die suddenly and unexpectedly at a younger age. Cats may have "nine lives" but in some ways they are pretty fragile.

He was SUCH a peacenik... no intention of "getting into it" with the other cats, or the street cats; but he almost never had to.
