Good Luck When a Black Cat Crosses Your Path - Or is it Bad Luck!

in #cats6 years ago (edited)

You are probably aware that some people are afraid of black cats. Black cats have been traditionally related to witches. They were considered as familiars for witches and related to demons. People have always associated black cats to witchcraft and bad luck. In Ancient Egyptian all cats were notoriously honored and worshiped. Killing a cat was even a capital crime. The Japanese also honor black cats as symbols of good luck, and they are viewed as particularly important to single women, as having a black cat is believed to lure in many fine suitors.

On the other side, some people choose black cats because they are harder to adopt or because they think they have a cool look.

Every year as Halloween approaches, Katie Lisnik, director of cat protection and policy for The HSUS, sees some shelters and rescues across the country issue proclamations that they will not adopt out any black cats during October. At that time of year, they declare, too many people adopt black cats merely to serve as costume accessories or, worse, as the victims of Halloween pranks or ritual sacrifices.

Katherine Shenar, chief of staff at San Diego Humane Society, shared those fears when she first started working in sheltering 21 years ago. For the first seven years of her career, she pulled black cats from the floor two weeks before Halloween and two weeks after, worried that people who adopted them at that time were doing so for nefarious purposes.

My grandmother had two black cats as a family members of 12 cats that we had at that time. She loved cats and didnt really care about the color or what people think of black cats. I have never believed such stories too and prefer black cats more than the others. They are very unique, beautiful and shiny mini panthers. Large green eyes against a sleek black body. They are very loving and protective, playful and affectionate.

There are many superstitions in this world. Thinking a bad omen when a black cat crosses road, is just a superstition. Cats have nothing to do with us. They may cross the road just in search of food.

Absolutely! But unfortunately many people still believe in this nonsense :(

I see it always as good luck. Cats are adorable 😍

Me too :)

every time I see black cat, I quickly think of japanese anime called kiki's delivery service. It's very famous in Japan :)

I checked it out. The kitty is flying high! Need to watch it in the weekend :)
