Sphynx Cats are most commonly known for their visibly lack of hair, although they can possess thin hair across their bodies, they are commonly hairless. In addition to the lack of fur, they lack eyelashes and have no whiskers too. Due to their breeding background, they have a resemblance to the Devon Rex. The Sphynx Cat is regarded as a one of the most unique hairless cats in the world and takes inspiration from historic cats kept by the ancient Aztecs who kept hairless felines. Breeding efforts were centred on emulating these historic accounts of hairless cats and was eventually successful in the late 1900s.

Despite possessing a unique appearance with a hairless body, the genetic mutation does not come without its caveats. In particular, Sphynx cats suffer from skin conditions that can develop into various infections if not cared for in due time. The ailments can include fungal growth and rashes. The lack of hair on its body also removes a protective layer that it would normally have against the sun, owners will need to take precautionary measures to protect the Sphynx cat from sun burns and other potential harm.
