In some cases during the newborn state, a kitten may be observed to not have any movement in their waste systems. The stomach can become distended and it may seem like a ballooning effect. This may indicate some sort of issue that needs attention by a vet.

In some cases, a vet will deduce that simple assistance will be required to help the kitten groom and stimulate waste functions. Using a warm cloth with gentle rubbing around the genitals will help waste pass in the kitten and alleviate the condition of discomfort.
