Cat meowing is another form of feline communication and is a very intricate set of sounds that will communicate different things. Some cats will talk happily throughout the day and sometimes will have conversations with one another.

A high pitched shriek or hissing noise is cause for concern as it shows that the cat is experiencing a sign of distress. When a cat behaves this way it is best to assess the situation and approach it gently. A cat feeling insecure or stressed may emit sounds that are hoarse, it is best to see a vet for consultation if such calls persist. Cats communicate in many ways and it is an ongoing task to decipher these messages for owners.
