Colour Transformations II

in #cats5 years ago (edited)

Off of this perceived black colour, the chocolate strain takes form as a recessive gene. These of course occur in different shades but are generally seen as darker browns. Interestingly, the spectrum from dark to lighter colours continues into different ones altogether which have their own classifications. Moving into the even lighter direction, Cinnamon is the next stage of recessive genome from chocolate and are observed as visibly lighter shades of brown.

As we review the various shades, it’s interesting to know that while the grey mutation brought a darker shade that came to be black, it also shifted towards another spectrum known as the diluted strand. These hues are perceived as blues and is a result of the recessive genome in combination with black.

Dilution occurs as part of the recessive gene and directly effects many other colour strands. For instance, dilution can also occur in chocolates, cinnamon and more. These would result in some more unusual offshoots including lilac and creams. For a breeder it is important to understand the possible combinations of physical, temperamental and health associated characteristics. Achieving a stable and healthy litter with desirable temperament should be priority over colour mixing.
