Cat Breeding is a long standing culture that has seen many new lines of cats establish themselves over the years. The standardisation from international bodies has ensured that less spontaneous variability and a healthy lineage is formed before giving recognition status. However, cats do not necessarily need to have a prestige lineage or background to be of quality. Non-pedigreed cats deserve just as much attention and praise. The reason that this is sometimes perceived as unknown territories is because the gene pool is very diverse. Appearances, genetics and general health are left to chance due to unregulated breeding between sires and queens.

Non pedigree cats do not belong to any recognised group in the cat breeding society. They are referred to as alley cats in the states and have no clear lineage. However, despite these cats not being pure breeds that are continuations of existing breeds, they may still belong to established lines of cat pedigrees. For this reason, these types of cats will exhibit very unique yet uncanny resemblance to well-known breeds.
