Night time activity is not abnormal and will often be observed in new cats who are curious about their new surrounding environment.

Cats need much of their sleep to recoup their energy levels which are depleted through rigorous physical activity as they pounce and jump the night away. Sleeping states have also been observed in cats and they vary from light sleep that can be disturbed with minor noises or bouts of deep sleep that will see various facial expressions. Light sleep is often short lived and typically lasts for about ten minutes to half an hour bit sized catnap sessions. If any disturbance is heard or felt in this time, the cat will jump instantly and investigate or move to safety.
