I use this expression a lot.
It is one of my favorite and most used word.
It shares the same line of thought for me.
"And..."
"So..."
I use it to cause a line of thought in a discussion.
There are people who like to ignore the details, calling them back with just a word and ellipsis.
It keeps their memory on to quickly remember what they seem to forget.
It might be different from others.
People use words their own way.
We all perceive things differently.

I doubt I use, same for 'so'. Although... Nope. I will check if there's any word I instead. Most likely not because I am not that talkative and if I think "so what" I rarely say it but one can read my face.
