June 30 Days Writing Challenge - Life Hacks - Day Eight: Take The Big One Down First

in #challenge30days6 years ago

When you read the title of this #challenge30days post you might instantly think that my life hack shared with you guys today is about fighting, self defense or some violent sport that I am into. It has actually nothing to do with these and it is, in my opinion, a very productive trick to take down every day tasks, projects or a simple day of work.

I've heard about it in high-school from my math teacher who several times told us to always solve the hardest problems first. Whether we have to go shopping, work our day out at an unpleasant job or working on any type of project his advice was to always complete such tasks by starting with the thoughts one. It is more than 10 years since I've learned this technique and practiced it very often in different types of situations.

It's become some subconscious pattern that I am using with my interactions also. If I have to organize something and that thing implies making calls and dealing with all sort of people I would choose the most difficult ones to call the first.

Normally the first instinct that we have in solving things out is to start with the easiest one and continue gradually or just pick them randomly, but when we come to the hardest task to solve a couple of hours before the working time is over or just before a deadline we will almost certainly deal with fatigue, stress and a lack of energy and motivation. These tiny ones took their energy price also while that though one was always on our back stressing us out.

However, when I start working on the toughest one and not the easiest not only that my "inner battery" levels are close to 100% making it easier to complete, but at the end of it that feeling of accomplishing the "big thing" is like adding a few percents to that level. Very often when my confidence is on the "right level" in such situations, the other tasks that I have become just a child's play to knock them down.

Bottom line, whether you take tasks down by decreasing difficulty or mix them a bit it is highly recommended to start with the hardest one. You may also consider that there might be a chance at the end of the day you won't have time anymore to solve everything out, thus having an easier one to postpone for tomorrow is the best outcome. Let's face it, not always we can do what we have in mind in just one day so it's better to have already solved the big ones.

Making a habit of marking down the big tasks first will make everything left easier and more pleasant so give it a try.

Excellent the publication. I set priorities and start by the easiest ones so that I can lighten the list of activities and if it is necessary to postpone one of them for the next day, I do it but in the early hours of the morning, but very rarely, it has happened.
