May 30 Days Challenge- Day 11: What's More Important for Steemit Right Now: Smart Media Tokens or Hivemind?

in #challenge30days6 years ago (edited)

Well, I would like to start by saying that the above topic or subject of discussion is similar to asking a question of this nature. Which is important: few people becoming wealthier or plenty people becoming moderately rich? Is the later part of the question I just asked even realistic..., considering the answer to be in the affirmative?

noun: hivemind
a notional entity consisting of a large number of people who share their knowledge or opinions with one another, regarded as producing either uncritical conformity or collective intelligence.
"he has become one of those celebrities whose online presence has made him a favourite of the Internet hive mind"
(in science fiction) a unified consciousness or intelligence formed by a number of alien individuals, the resulting consciousness typically exerting control over its constituent members.
"there is a Borg Queen who controls the hive mind"

The above is just the Google definition of Hivemind. Now let me continue with my rants. I wish I could skip this topic as I have insufficient knowledge about SMT and Hivemind. But after reading @dragosroua's thoughts, alongside that of @deanlogic and @maverickinvictus on the subject, I realized that this had more to do with humanity than Steemit itself.

About SMT...

SMT might cause a stir in the Steemosphere no doubt. The possible rippling effect of launching this, I would say is quite unpredictable. Fine, SMT will increase user base, usability of Steemit and increase traffic amongst other things, as more people will get to monetize their contents on Steemit from other social media platforms.

Buy the question is..., can SMT actually keep the people it would bring to Steemit? Can it increase engagements and interpersonal communication? Can it build communities? Will it end up making only a few to become richer? After SMT, what next?

About Hivemind...

Hivemind is a layer which allows you to build a Facebook / Instagram / Twitter clone on top of the Steemit blockchain in a much consistent - and standardized - way. -@dragosroua

I've learnt that the Github on Hivemind has a lot of promising features, under work in progress. Features that will enhance human communication on Steemit and increase engagements.

If anything can be done to make Steemit not just look like a robotic kind of social media or contents dumping site, where robots gather in form of humans to churn out contents and dump them on the steem blockchain. Then others will disappear immediately after dumping, believing that others robots are completely uninterested in what they've dumped, while others leave theirs at the mercy of the community, believing that well meaning robots might stumble upon them and show some care.

Notwithstanding, some other robots would dump their posts and go sleep crossing their legs, knowing that their bidbots and autovotes are on duty and so on.

But there's a clear difference between humans and robots, cognitive abilities; consciousness and conscience.

If there's a possibility of Hivemind to alter things and make a difference on post feedbacks, then it will be fair and progressive to consider Hivemind before SMT.

People have left steemit because of poor feedbacks on posts, low level of engagements, low payouts and inability to freely communicate and connect. Many others believe that the level of oppression and corruption on Steemit is undeniable, and as such, the weak cannot survive.

What is the usefulness of a community if it cannot protect the weakest?

I believe that Steemit was built on the platform of love and giving first, before steem. Giving and love brings prosperity, and this has a lot to do with humanity.

@Surpassinggoogle would say....

Humanity is the brother next to you.

Hivemind has a lot more to do with humanity, and humanity should be of greater priority. However, I'm not oblivious of the possible unintended consequences and disadvantages Hivemind might bring, but I think the positive impact by far outweighs that.

I'm done ranting, thank you for your time.

This challenge is @dragosroua's initiative, to find out more about it and how to join, do well to read this POST

You've joined the ranting gang, lol

Steemit is beautiful cos of the humans in it - @surpassinggoogle

I really wish people can understand this, especially @ned and the dev team. We have loved and trusted people here without even meeting them physically.

Communities have been built, we are promoting steemit and the steem blockchain endlessly. I'm seriously hoping, they don't ruin our efforts. But anyway we are here till the very end, it would be more enjoyable and benefiting if we have a fair system. If Hivemind gonna give us what we need, then go Hivemind!!!

#wastingtimeonyou

Absolutely you're right on this....

it would be more enjoyable and benefiting if we have a fair system.

But unfortunately, the definition of what is fair is relative. We hope when it comes to steemit, it will be subjective to our inner conscience.

The development team are doing their best, I believe so, to make Steemit better. And we can only look forward to better days.
