30 Days Challenge Fall 2018 - Day Sixteen: Sound, Light, and Time

IMG_0320.jpg

Walking at dusk. A hawk cries out. Shadows deepen.

Sun begins to set. Turkeys cluck and gobble. Organizing the rafter into their roost. Orange tint to the sky. Razor sharp outline of hills on horizon.

Sun disappearing. Sky lights up with orange and now pink. Deer move silently back to where they bed down for the night.

Still enough light to easily see but animals become silhouettes that fade into the night as they move away. An owl hoots. Another answers.

Darkness falls. The silence of twilight replaced with the incessant chirping of crickets. Night time has arrived.

Walking and observing nature most evenings, reveals patterns and connections. Your mind starts to tie together sounds and sights with the passing of the day. You become attuned to the rhythm of nature around you.

This is my entry into #challenge30days by @dragosroua

The photo at top is a squirrel hanging out in an oak tree, eating an acorn. Did you see him? Is this an interesting photo of a squirrel hiding in the shadows? or just a bad photo of a squirrel in poor lighting? What do you think?

Dublin, California. October. All photos original.

The squirrel is almost like a piece of the tree!

He's munching on an acorn... you are what you eat haha

@steven-patrick
I doubt the squirrel is hiding...!!!!
I'm going with the lighting. The squirrels here love mocking me from the trees. They have that height
superiority thing going on... 😉

Yes you are right. Squirrels generally don't have shrinking personalities lol

I'm on my phone and he is hard to find! I love those twisted branches and your wonderful description of the coming of evening.

Thanks @melinda010100. Just got back from a walk :)

I'm envious. I never go out after dark. We have no street lights in the neighborhood, and no sidewalks. So I'm always cautious about being out on the road on my scooter for fear I would not be seen if any cars did happen to come down the road. I would probably be safe enough with the headlight that the scooter has but it always just seems like a risk. But I do enjoy sitting out on the deck after dark!

Tonight was interesting. My wife was in shorts and we ended up going down a path through a field. Then it got dark and we couldn't avoid all the thistle on the way back. Scratched up legs aren't as fun or quickly forgotten as when your a kid :) But we saw several owls

Oh no! I hope the scratches heal quickly! And glad you saw owls! I've heard a few here the past few nights. There were not any around during the summer. It seems like all of our bird populations are way down.
