Sunday's homeless meal was a big success.steemCreated with Sketch.

Our regular hot meal for the homeless was yesterday. We fed about 300 people, in spite of the 45 degree cold, with rain threatening! :)

We made: hot coffee, chicken alfredo, beef stroganoff, spaghetti, macaroni and cheese, salad, chili, buttered corn, peas and carrots, pies, and homemade brownies and cookies.

That was 50 gallons of hot food, and we served it all out in just over an hour! They are a good people in a bad spot, that just need a little help.

It was problematic, we didn't have all the roasters, in the right places (which was trouble for preparation); and we lost two generators. That made us very power shy, and we had to plug roasters in alternately to keep things warm!

But, we got through it, and it all was served to people who needed a hot meal! It is always a special blessing to be, for a day, GOD's hands helping those in need!

God bless you, Toby. You are truly "laying up treasures in heaven."

Do you ever get an opportunity to witness to anyone at these times?

They are good people in a bad spot, and GOD loves us ALL.

We have a minister that moves through the crowd, and prays with those who ask, and passes out Bible based pamphlets and books. That stuff has to be small, because they have little room to carry extra. We tried to pass out Bibles, but most refused due to size.

We also pray over the food with everyone who can hear, and we get a lot of Amens from the line.

Man, comments are WAY down the last couple of days! Only two this morning, yesterday about six, and the day before fourteen. I wonder why there are so few?

:)>

Lots of people have given up, I guess.

Glad to hear that! That's great. They may appreciate a meal now, but eternal salvation will stick to their ribs a lot longer.

Hopefully it is a temporary dearth, and they come back strong!

We try to feed their body and their souls. Maybe, when they hit a low, they will remember that GOD loves them, and sends them hot food once a month!

Maybe save them here, and more importantly later!

It's a wonderful gift that you and those helping you give are giving to the community!! 🤗❤
Are there usually this many people each week? Also, can the generators be repaired or are they kaput?

They are good people, and we like to help!

Each week we feed about 50, but the last Sunday of the month is the heavy feed, and we average around 300 on that weekend.

The 8,000 watt is an easy repair, just a fuel cutoff valve. The other one is in really bad shape, and will need a generator rebuild shop...too broken.

:'(

This is wonderful, thank you for what you do! :)

Happy to help them, they are good people.

I never met a dragon rider before, LOL! You must be a Sci-Fi reader; I am myself.

Wow sir smithlabs! that is amazing and the photos are really good too, great job on those. What's the deal with the generators? Aren't they always going out on you guys? That's alot of roasters to try and keep warm.

Well we have 3-3,000 watt(only runs one roaster), one 4,000 watt (new very reliable), one 5,700 watt (runs well), 6,000 watt (stopped generating), 8,000 watt (lost a fuel line).

So we were down to 1 3,000 watt, the 4,000 watt, and the 5700 watt; everything else was down. went from 29,700 watt to 12,700 watts. That hurt a lot for sure, since we have about 18,000 watt load.

Hard to keep things running on all of them. We need to fix the 8,000 watt unit, and send the 6,000 watt in for rebuild on the generator. I May need to buy another 6,000 watt unit.

It is a lot to keep warm, especially with the coffee pot we run, and the ambient temperature we are seeing these days.

Good grief that's a ton of work and wattage generation. But will it be improved once you get the school bus converted, is that still the plan?

Long range plan, yes. This is always slower that I like, but faster than I expected. But the bus is still a primary goal.

We will get there...someday! But in the short term, we have some generators to fix!

:)>

yes sir smithlabs someone better get those generators repaired, will they have to be taken to a shop that specializes in that sort of repair work?

Agreed. The 6,000 watt unit that stopped generating, even though the gas motor is fine will be quicker at a shop, because I do Not have the time to check the field windings and exciter power supply in that unit.

The 8,000 watt unit just lost a cut off valve, so it will be fixed next time. The 6,000 watt unit repair will take six to eight weeks, those shops are always busy.

We should get another 6,000 watt to have a spare. We could be a lot safer if we had twice the normal load. That way, when we loose one, we are not dead in the water.

:)>

sir smithlabs..who pays for the new one that is needed? and how much do those things cost?

I do, and $600 if I am very careful. I am in $1000 on generators, but that 8,000 watt was donated, and that helped a lot! The 6,000 watt that is down belongs to Billy, so I guess he will pay to fix it.

Got to have the power, so got to have another one.
