A Hero of the Gospel

Reflection from the book of Acts;
Acts 17 4-9

4:And some of them were persuaded and joined Paul and Silas, as did a great many of the devout Greeks and not a few of the leading women.
5:But the Jews were jealous, and taking some wicked men of the rabble, they formed a mob, set the city in an uproar, and attacked the house of Jason, seeking to bring them out to the crowd.
6:And when they could not find them, they dragged Jason and some of the brothers before the city authorities, shouting, “These men who have turned the world upside down have come here also,
7:and Jason has received them, and they are all acting against the decrees of Caesar, saying that there is another king, Jesus.”
8:And the people and the city authorities were disturbed when they heard these things.
9:And when they had taken money as security from Jason and the rest, they let them go.

Word for Today:

And Jason has welcomed them into his home. They are all guilty of treason against Caesar, for they profess allegiance to another King called Jesus. v 7

Jason and some other believers were arrested and dragged to the council. They were charged with treason for welcoming the disciples into their home and professing allegiance to another God. Jason and the other believers were forced to put up cash for freedom. And by doing so, they were promising that the trouble will cease or his property and possibly his life would be taken.

Heroes and Heroines of the gospel are not only those who come proclaiming the word of God alone, but all those who in one way or the other facilitated the proclamation of the word. Jason is one of such heroes in the Scripture. He first believed in the gospel, provided his home as a base for Paul and Silas and I believe he also catered for their feeding and upkeep. He also gave cash to secure freedom for himself and other believers and also laid down his life for the gospel.

We too have no excuse not to be heroes or a heroines of the gospel. And great heroes and heroines are not just those who do great things, but those who do little things with great minds for the glory of God.

Lord, help me to be an example of faithful gospel proclamation.
