The Burden of a Man of Prayer

Reflection from the book of Daniel 9:1-4

Daniel must have been deeply concerned with the plight of his people and their humiliation in captivity.

Also, he would have felt deeply the sense of abandonment by God. It was probably this concern that led Daniel to search the scriptures concerning the plight of his people. Fortunately, he was not disappointed.

He read in book of Jeremiah (Jeremiah 25:12) about the desolation of Babylon and the restoration of Israel, this was what spurred Daniel to pray.

A few important lessons are found here for our instruction in the school of prayer. If we must pray kingdom prayers then we must have kingdom burdens.

Daniel was not disinterested or aloof, he was troubled about Jerusalem, the Holy city and yearned for her wellbeing.

The Prayer that will avail much must be derived from and steeped in the scriptures. Also, prayer is turning away from distraction to seek the face of God; it involves humbling ourselves before God in fasting and true repentance.

Today, we must abandon our self-centered, half hearted prayers to seek Gods face.

Our prayer must be driven by a spirit given passion and should be steeped in a deep understanding of Gods word.

The prayer that God will answer is a prayer that fulfils the kingdom agenda.

Word for Today:
"Then I turned my face to the Lord God, seeking him by prayer and pleas for mercy with fasting and sackcloth and ashes" v3

Prayer:
Lord, give me kingdom burdens, I pray in Jesus name!
