Weighed and Found Wanting

Still on the book of Daniel 5: 13-31.
The first import of the hand from heaven is that God is involved in the affairs of this world and that he intervenes as he pleases.
Second, is that as we observed in my previous post even though Belshazzar knew how Nebuchadnezzar his predecessor was humbled, yet he would repeat the same mistake.
We see this over and over again in human history, may God give us the wisdom not to repeat the obvious mistakes of others.
Third is that though God has made man in his image to worship him, yet men often set up in their hearts idols which they prefer to worship.
Fourth, there are always consequences for our actions and though God is patient, sometimes He can be swift in His judgement.
The message could be interpreted as numbered, numbered, weighed and divided (ESV Study Bible note). Which means that the king has been weighed on the divine weight and found wanting and therefore his kingdom would be brought to a swift end.
We too must be careful to note that God is a righteous judge and that he still judges even today, in fact the name Daniel means God is my Judge.
Word for Today:
But the God in whose hand is your breath, and whose are all your ways, you have not honoured v23b.
Prayer:
Lord, I see today that all the ends of the earth are in your hands; please help me to humble myself under your mighty hand.
