A question to me from a member of a Catholic Church about the "Trinity"

in #christian-trail6 years ago

Here is his Question:

There is trinity being called the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, three persons but only one God. Do you believe in it? If so, please explain; or if not, please explain it also.

This is my answer:

I believe in the Bible. There is no trinity in the Bible, in all the Bibles. Even in the Catholic Bible, there is no trinity. Let us read the official Bible of the Catholic Church, the Douay-Rheims Version because the word trinity is English. There is no trinity even in the Catholic Bible itself. The doctrine of a trinity is not from God. It is a fabrication; two words joined together.

Tri + unity

Three that are united, that is the meaning of "tri + unity," where the word trinity comes from. But it is not in the Bible. Even in the Spanish Bible, there is no "trinidad." Let us read the book of the Catholic church.

"THE FAITH OF OUR FATHERS"

CHAPTER - 1
The blessed trinity, the incarnation, etc.

In this one God, there are three distinct Persons, -the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, who are perfectly equal to each other.

According to their doctrine, the three are perfectly equal to each other. It means that no one is superior, no one is inferior. That is a wrong doctrine. Because the Lord Jesus said in John 14:28,

John 14:28
King James Version (KJV)

28 - Ye have heard how I said unto you, I go away, and come again unto you. If ye loved me, ye would rejoice, because I said, I go unto the Father: for my Father is greater than I.

"...my Father is greater than I." How can they be perfectly equal to each other? So, the doctrine about the Trinity is wrong. The Father and the Son are not equal. The Father is greater than the Son. And so, the Father sends the Son, but the Son cannot send the Father. The Father is greater than the Holy Spirit because the Father sends the Holy Spirit. But the Holy Spirit cannot send the Father. And so, the Father remains to be higher than the Son, higher than the Holy Spirit.

So, the doctrine about the Trinity, that the three are perfectly equal to each other, that is wrong. But I believe that there is the Father. The Son is a separate being from the Father. Why are they separate beings? The Son has His own person, He has His own being. He was begotten of the Father, He came from His bosom. Let us read Psalms 2:7.

Psalms 2:7
King James Version (KJV)

7 - I will declare the decree: the Lord hath said unto me, Thou art my Son; this day have I begotten thee.

So, the Son has His own person or being apart from the Father's because He was begotten.

I hope all of you understand what I am saying. Because my Catholic friend is trying to push the question the "Three-person but one God." And he wants me to explain how it happened that there are "Three-person but one God."

First of all, I was not the one who said that. Those are words of Catholic priests, "Three-person in one God." I have no such declaration. I think he should have asked priests. They are the ones who said that there is one God but three persons. It would be unfair if I explain their statement. Because it is written in the Bible that there is one God the Father. But apart from God the Father, there is somebody called in the Bible as the Son, and the Son is God. Let us read John 1:1,

PJohn 1:1
King James Version (KJV)
1 - In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

The Word is God. "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God." We should understand that. The Word that was manifested in the flesh and became Christ, who is the Son, He is God, He is not man. He is the Son of God, even before the world was created, God has begotten the Word. Let us read John 17:5.

PJohn 17:5
King James Version (KJV)
5 - And now, O Father, glorify thou me with thine own self with the glory which I had with thee before the world was.

Before the world was created, the Son was already begotten, He was given glory. It is clear that before the world was, He was already begotten of the Father and was given glory. So, He has a separate being, a separate person, but He remains to be God. It the same manner that the Father who has begotten Him is God, He who was born is God as well.

For example, the offspring of a carabao is also a carabao. The offspring of a cow is also a cow. God the Father is a Spirit that begat, He has begotten Christ, so Christ is also God. To prove that, God said in Hebrews 1:8,

Hebrews 1:8

King James Version (KJV)
8 - But unto the Son he saith, Thy throne, O God, is forever and ever: a scepter of righteousness is the scepter of thy kingdom.

This refers to the Son. "Thy throne, O God, is forever and ever:" The Father called the Son as God. So, the Father is God, the Son is God. We should realize that. But not one God as they are saying.

Biblically, there is one God the Father, there is the Son, and there is the Holy Spirit. But for him to say, one God, three persons, there is no such thing in the Bible. I hope you understand my steemians friends.

"Biblically, there is one God the Father, there is the Son, and there is the Holy Spirit. But for him to say, one God, three persons, there is no such thing in the Bible."

But how many sons are there?
Luke 3:38 "Which was the son of Enos, which was the son of Seth, which was the son of Adam, which was the son of God."

Then we have:
John 4:24 "God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth." If God is spirit then is it not redundant to say "Father, son and holy spirit"? Its just like saying GOD, God and holy-GOD. I don't think father and son are one "person" even though they are one (family). Obviously there is a distinction between them. But what about the holy spirit?

It was given to Adam when he was created. "He breathed into his nostrils the breath of life" something similar in John "That life was the light of men". So in a way God is saying every living man has this breath of God in him? Maybe we shouldn't assume that. So, if we limit the number of people who receive the holy spirit it would come down to Adam, the patriarchs (from Seth down to Noah to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob), Judges, Prophets, Priests and Kings and finally Jesus who spread the spirit to his disciples.

Does that mean the rest of us don't have the holy spirit? No. Acts 10:44 "Even as Peter was saying these things, the Holy Spirit fell upon all who were listening to the message."

I think the holy spirit is the knowledge of God, as God is Spirit and a spirit of Holiness, Truth and Life (way, truth and life) simply by preaching it you spread the holy spirit. May be a brutally simplified conception but it makes sense to me. Adam had intimate knowledge of God since he was his father, literally. Adam told his sons about God - some of them actually kept the knowledge and passed down to their sons and so on. Jesus had the same knowledge as Adam only he knew God for ever while Adam only knew him a little while. That's what makes the bible special - we get to learn who our true father is from his most beloved son.

Great response! You understand my point!

Thanks for the response @lafferin. The knowledge of God you mean? There is written in the Bible the power and the wisdom of God. Let us read.

1 Corinthians 1:24
King James Version

24 - But unto them which are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God, and the wisdom of God.

You have understanding @lafferin! Thanks be to God...
