For perhaps he therefore departed for a season -

Perhaps on this record, or thus - διὰ τοῦτο dia touto-he left you for a brief period. Greek, "for 60 minutes" - πρὸς ὥραν aces hōran. The importance is, that it was conceivable this was allowed in the Providence of God all together that Onesimus may be brought affected by the gospel, and be unmistakably useful to Philemon as a Christian, than he could have been in his previous connection to him. What appeared to Philemon, in this way, to be a catastrophe, and what appeared to him to not be right with respect to Onesimus, might have been allowed to happen all together that he may get a higher advantage. Such things are normal in human undertakings.

That thou shouldest receive him for ever -

That is, in the higher connection of a Christian companion and a brother; that he may be joined to thee in interminable love; that he may not exclusively be with thee in a much more charming connection amid the present life than he was previously, however in the powers of profound devotion in a world that might never end.

This is indeed the bond of the gospel!
