TRUSTING GOD FOR TOMORROW

TEXT: JAMES 4:13-17

James 4:13 Go to now, ye that say, To day or to morrow we will go into such a city, and continue there a year, and buy and sell, and get gain:
14 Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away.
15 For that ye ought to say, If the Lord will, we shall live, and do this, or that.
16 But now ye rejoice in your boastings: all such rejoicing is evil.
17 Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin.

Economists say that human wants are numerous and insatiable. As one need is being taken care of, another appears and calls for attention. We often make plans and projections towards the actualization of our set goals. We deny ouslrselves of pleasures of today so as to achieve great success tomorrow. However, as much as it is good to make plans and strategize to achieve greatness, it is of utmost importance that God be at the center of our strategies.

Psalms 127:1-2 explains that except the Lord is involved in our activities and our plans, all efforts made could be in vain.

Psalms 127:1 Except the LORD build the house, they labour in vain that build it: except the LORD keep the city, the watchman waketh but in vain.
2 It is vain for you to rise up early, to sit up late, to eat the bread of sorrows: for so he giveth his beloved sleep.
God is the master planner, and He expects us to put Him in His rightful place in our lives. This means our plans and aspirations must be rooted in God.

Proverbs 21:31 acknowledges that we must prepare / plan for whatsoever we want to embark upon, but in all, be rest assured that the success or failure of that strategy depends on God's presence or abssence in it. If God is at the center of the plan, success is guaranteed.

Proverbs 21:31 The horse is prepared against the day of battle: but safety is of the LORD.

In I Samuel 30:1-19, David and his men had just lost all their belongings and their families to the Amalekites. After weeping so much for their losses, David came back to his senses and enquired of the Lord if he should pursue his oppressors. God gave him approval and David pursued.

1 Samuel 30:18 And David recovered all that the Amalekites had carried away: and David rescued his two wives.
19 And there was nothing lacking to them, neither small nor great, neither sons nor daughters, neither spoil, nor any thing that they had taken to them: David recovered all.
With God's presence, David overtook his enemies and defeated them and recovered every single thing that was taken away from his camp.

James 4:14 describes life as a vapour. It appears and in a little while, it goes away. This means we need God's direction to know and to do only the important things in life. To make impart in a man's short life, he needs God's direction. Proverbs 13:22 says "A good man leaves an inheritance for his grand children." A fool will squander or lose what he has even achieved by his own strength like the rich fool in Luke 12:16-20.

Many people have lost their lives to worry. By worrying, they have incurred several sicknesses and diseases. Luke 12:25-26 explains that no achievement is made by worrying. Worry creates more problems instead of solutions.

• Trusting God for tomorrow means acknowledging that God is the source of life and the essence of our existence.
• It means looking up to Him for help Psalm 121:2
• It means having confidence in God's direction, obeying Him totally.
• Trusting God means submitting totally to His will, not on human wisdom.

Benefits of Trusting God

• You will have direction. Proverbs 3:5-6
• He guarantees victory or success. I Samuel 2:9
• Trusting in God renews our strength. Isaiah 40:31
  God is the only one that knows the number of our days. It is a wise thing to trust in Him to lead us to spend those days in comfort.
