Things To Pay Attention To In 2019

God would have you and I pay closer attention to peace and joy this year. God's intent is that we live in peace. One of the cardinal hallmarks of the holy trinity is peace. The Father is called the God of Peace, the Son is called the prince of peace (Isaiah 9:6-7) and the Spirit's indwelling brings peace (Galatians 5:22). Peace is an awareness of God's abiding presence. Peace or shalom means total life prosperity. It means to know God's Comfort on every side. Peace in Greek is "Eirene", meaning to have freedom from agitation. It is not the absence of agitating issues but it means they are not agitating you. The peace of God that passes all understanding, it makes a man go to sleep in a storm, makes a man sleep despite a death sentence. Even when everything is topsy-turvy and troubled, seek for peace (1 Peter 3:9-11).

Contend and fight for your peace this year guys. Do away with everything that robs you of your peace. Is peace a stranger or an occasional guest in your home? A peace maker doesn't add to an already bad situation, don't stoke the fire that is already raging (Matthew 5:9). Douse the fire and don’t speak about everything you see or hear. God hates those who sow discord among brethren. There are sensitive issues that if you keep talking about would take away your peace. So let sleeping dogs lie, leave stuff alone for the sake of peace. Stop nagging about your spouse's weaknesses or you parent's short comings or your sibling's issues. It will lead to a loss of peace which in turn will lead to loss of focus, declining creativity, low productivity and so on. Few things will matter when there is loss of peace (Lamentations 3:17). Where there is peace, there is creativity and things flourish (Psalm 122:7). Be still and know that He is God. God can bury all your issues forever such that they will never again constitute a source of concern for you (Romans 16:20).

Joy is the abiding gladness regardless of your current realities. It is a state of mind where you are aware of God's abiding presence regardless of the situation. Joy is a constant expression that has no regard for external occurrence i.e. negative doctor's report, lack of sales, no money etc. John 16:33 as you engage with the systems of the world, there will be issues. A colleague at work will offend you, some will call your quietness snobbishness, some will mistake your gentleness for arrogance and some will even take offense at your constant smile...lol. All these regardless, be of good cheer because you know God had overcome the world and let the joy of the Lord reign (John 16:33).

Jesus already paid the price for us to have peace (Isaiah 53:5). Let’s examine five areas in life where we need peace.

Peace in our heart - "My son, pay attention to my wisdom; Lend your ear to my understanding," (Proverbs 5:1). Let the

Peace in our mind - A let your mind be stayed on God not on your problem. If you focus on the problem, it would seem magnified but if you focus on the problem solver, the problems would shrink. Empty your mind of its cares through prayers. Why worry when you can pray? (Philippians 4:6). Know who is with you; when you walk through the valley of the shadow of death, you fear no evil because you know that God is with you. Live a life of contentment; leave whatever you can't afford. Be content with what you have.

Peace in our body - You need wellness and soundness in your body. Do not eat too much, just eat well. Rest well don’t sleep too long, just sleep well. Exercise well and meditate on God's word (Proverbs 4:22).

Peace in our relationships - When you live right, you’ll be fine but when you don't live right, you’ll lose your peace, unnecessarily. Learn to make excuses for the faults of others. When choosing a life partner, choose someone who shares your values in every respect (Amos 3:3, proverbs 12:26). Learn to walk away from toxic people (Genesis 13:9).

Peace in our land - To have peace in our land we must; pray for our leaders and those in authority (1 Timothy 2:1-2) for them to have the fear of God. Choose your leaders wisely. You must vote when you’re old enough, else you are not contending for our peace.

Fight for your peace, choose to be peaceful despite any chaos in 2019!
