Faith that Would Get You in Heaven Must Have Biblical Proofs

영접기도행위를 마치고 성실하게 주일성수를 하는 교인들이라면, 제가 올려놓은 칼럼의 제목을 보면 가슴이 뜨악해지며 얼른 도망치고 싶은 생각이 굴뚝같을 겁니다.

If you’re a good churchgoer, you might avoid my columns when you spot them.

그도 그럴 것이, 지금의 신앙생활을 유지하면 천국은 따 논 당상이며, 그동안 희생적인 신앙행위의 대가로 이 땅에서 얻을 축복을 고민하고 있었는데 말이죠.

That’s because you’ve never doubted or questioned about your right to enter Heaven and blessings, for you’ve diligently attended church services.

그래서 이런 말을 하는 사람들은 이단비스무리 한 무리라고 폄훼하면서, 현재의 믿음의 수혜가 변하지 않을 거라고 마음을 다독이고 있습니다.

So people who claim something like this is usually considered “cult” and looked down upon.

그러나 자기 확신이나 주변 교우들의 견해, 대다수의 목회자와 크리스천들이 그렇게 생각하고 있더라도, 그게 성경에서 기록한 하나님의 잣대이어야 하지 않겠습니까?

But they also know that it should be able to be proved by something solid.

그러나 그게 허술하기 짝이 없으니 기가 막히는 겁니다.

It’s funny that the logic behind it is poorly supported.

그래서 오늘은 하나님이 인정해주는 믿음의 증거에 대해, 성경에서 무어라고 말하고 있는지 찬찬히 살펴보고 싶습니다.

So I’d like to talk about true faith, approved by God, according to the Bible.

믿음은 바라는 것들의 실상이요 보이지 않는 것들의 증거니 선진들이 이로써 증거를 얻었느니라(히11:1,2)

Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see. 2 This is what the ancients were commended for. (Hebrews 11: 1-2)

위의 히브리서 11장은 너무 유명해서 설명이 필요 없을 것 같아요.

This verse is so famous and probably doesn’t even need an explanation.

믿음이란 자신이 소원하고 있는 것들의 실제이고, 눈앞에 보이지 않는 것들의 명백한 증거라고 말이죠.

“Belief (faith) is believing all that you want will come true,” you might say.

이 말은 우리가 교회에서 들어오고 있는 믿음과 괴리감이 적지 않습니다.

But this doesn't really mirror what people hear from church.

우리네 교회에서는 자신이 확신하고 있다면, 그게 믿음이라고 가르치고 있으니 말이에요.

Church usually says you have faith if you believe you have.

그렇기 때문에 영접기도행위에 진심으로 동의했다면, 천국에 가는 믿음이 있다고 가르치는 겁니다.

That’s why you’re taught you have true faith if you’ve said your acceptance prayer.

물론 그런 믿음의 확신이 믿음의 문으로 들어가는 시작이기는하지만, 단지 시작일 뿐입니다. 학교에 입학한다고 해서 졸업장을 받은 것이 아니라는 얘기죠.

Yes, it is true...in the very beginning of your spiritual journey;just like you entering school doesn’t guarantee you a diploma or a degree.

입학을 하는 것은 시작일 뿐이고, 열심히 공부해서 학교에서 인정하는 학습과정이나 능력을 인정받아야 졸업장이 주어질 겁니다.

Getting into a school is just the beginning; you’d have to go through the program in order to graduate.

이처럼 믿음의 확신은 믿음의 세계로 들어가는 시작에 불과하지, 하나님이 인정해주시는 믿음은 아니예요.

Just like this, confirming the faith is the start of it all; it’s not the actual faith God approves.

그러나 안타깝게도 우리네 교회는 맹인이 코끼리 만지는 것처럼, 자신이 만진 부위를 가지고 그게 코끼리의 전부라고 착각하고 있으니 기가 막힌 일인 겁니다.

But just like blind picturing an elephant by only touching its nose, Christians think what they know is the truth.

위의 히브리서 11장으로 돌아가서, 믿음에는 증거가 있다고 말하지 않습니까?

Let’s go back to Hebrews 11; faith comes with proofs, right?

그래서 여러분이 가지고 있는 증거란 무엇인가요?

So what is the proof you have?

영접기도행위에 주일성수, 그리고 교회에서 요구하는 각종 희생적인 신앙행위를 하는 것이라고요?

Acceptance prayer, attending services… these are the proofs, you say?

그러나 아쉽게도 그게 성경 어디에도, 하나님이 인정하시는 믿음이라고 한 적이 없습니다.

Unfortunately, there is nothing in the Bible about these being the proofs God approves as faith.

물론 우리네 교회에서 시행하는 종교의식과 신앙행위가 비성경적이라는 말이 아닙니다.

I’m not saying these worship services are unbiblical.

제가 말하고자하는 의도는, 그게 성경에 명백하게 직시하지 않았다는 겁니다.

I’m just saying the Bible never mentions the specific ways to hold Sunday service.

그래서 성경적인 증거로 사용될 수 없다는 말입니다. 우리네 교회의 신앙행위는 참고사항에 불과할 뿐이에요.

So it cannot be used as biblical proofs. Religious acts are just guidelines to help our faith.

그러므로 그런 신앙행위를 가지고 천국에 들어갈 것을 믿고 있다면, 심판대 앞에서 뜨악한 결과를 맞이하게 될 겁니다.

So you’d be surprised when you stand in front of God, if you believe these religious activities would get you in Heaven.

예수님이 판단하시는 잣대가 아니기에 말이죠. 그렇다면 성경에서 요구하는 믿음의 증거가 무엇인지 궁금하지 않으신가요?

...simply because that is not what Jesus looks for. Aren’t you curious about the faith Bible requires?

믿는 자들에게는 이런 표적이 따르리니 곧 그들이 내 이름으로 귀신을 쫓아내며 새 방언을 말하며 뱀을 집어올리며 무슨 독을 마실지라도 해를 받지 아니하며 병든 사람에게 손을 얹은즉 나으리라 하시더라(막16:17,18)

And these signs will accompany those who believe: In my name they will drive out demons; they will speak in new tongues; 18 they will pick up snakes with their hands; and when they drink deadly poison, it will not hurt them at all; they will place their hands onsick people, and they will get well.” (Mark 16: 17-18)

진실로 너희에게 이르노니 만일 너희에게 믿음이 겨자씨 한 알 만큼만 있어도 이 산을 명하여 여기서 저기로 옮겨지라 하면 옮겨질 것이요 또 너희가 못할 것이 없으리라(마17:20)

He replied, “Because you have so little faith. Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed,you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.” (Matthew 17: 20)

내가 진실로 진실로 너희에게 이르노니 나를 믿는 자는 내가 하는 일을 그도 할 것이요 또한 그보다 큰일도 하리니 이는 내가 아버지께로 감이라(요14;12)

Very truly I tell you, whoever believes in me will do the works I have been doing, and they will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father. (John 14: 12)

위의 구절은 믿는 자들이 지녀야할 목록들을 나열하고 있습니다.

These passages talk about qualities that God’s children must have.

귀신을 쫓아내며 귀신들이 일으킨 정신질환과 고질병을 치유하고, 귀신들의 공격을 받지 않으며(무슨 독을 마시지라도 해를 받지 아니하며, 필자 주), 놀라운 기도의 능력과 더불어 귀신을 쫓아내며 고질병을 치유하는 사역을 하는 것으로 증명해보여야 합니다.

They must:

Cast out demons, heal illnesses caused by them, be demon-proof, etc.

이런 능력은 자기 확신이나 관념적이고 사변적인 믿음으로 되지 않으며 될 수도 없습니다.

These abilities can’t be acquired or shown just by conceptual belief.

우리네 교회에서는 기적을 일으키는 성령의 능력을 외면하고, 성경지식을 이해하고 머릿속에서 쌓아두는 것으로 대체하고 있죠.

Churches today turn away from Holy Spirit’s power that wield miracles; they just try to understand the Bible as some type of literature.

그리고는 위의 구절들은 초대교회에나 있었던 잣대이고, 성경이 완성된 지금의 시대에는 필요가 없어진 구닥다리라고 가르치고 있으니 기가 막힌 일입니다.

And they say the requirements listed in the Bible was for that particular time in history. They teach people that these are old ideas that we do not need anymore.

그러나 아쉽게도 그런 말은 성경에 없어요. 성경을 자의적으로 비틀어서 아전인수식으로 해석한 교단신학자들의 주장일 뿐입니다.

But these are just arbitrary interpretations pastors preach today.

그래서 히11장에서 증명하고 있는 믿음의 구체적인 증거에 대해 콕 집어서, 하나님을 기쁘시게 하는 믿음에 대해 살펴보겠습니다.

So let’s take a look at these signs and proofs of faith that God rejoices.

믿음이 없이는 하나님을 기쁘시게 하지 못하나니 하나님께 나아가는 자는 반드시 그가 계신 것과 또한 그가 자기를 찾는 자들에게 상주시는 이심을 믿어야 할지니라(히11:6)

And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him. (Hebrews 11: 6)

1. 하나님이 살아계신 것을 믿는 것이다.

2. Believe God is alive here, now.

여러분은 하나님이 살아계신 것을 믿습니까? 오홋, 그래요? 어떻게 믿습니까?

Do you believe that God is a living God? Yeah? How and why do you believe that?

성경 속의 하나님이 과거에 하신 놀라운 사건들도 인정하고, 자신의 백성들을 구원하실 것도 인정하고, 성경에서 말씀하신 약속들도 인정하니까요?

You say you accept all the miracles in the Bible, God’s promise of salvation, and promises written in the Bible.

성경에서 말하는, 살아계신 하나님을 믿는다는 뜻은 당신 옆에서 당신의 일거수일투족을 날카롭게 살펴보신다는 의미입니다.

Believing in living God, according to the Bible, means God watches your every move, every breath.

그래서 여러분은 하나님을 두려워하면서 하루를 긴장하면서, 하나님의 뜻을 세밀하게 분별하면서 하나님이 싫어하신 말과 행위, 생각과 성품들을 쳐내고 계십니까?

So do you fear God, spending your day watcully, analyzing your every move and thoughts and act according to God’s word?

아니라면 여러분이 하나님을 믿는다는 것은 관념적이고 사변적인 이해에 불과할 뿐입니다.

If not, your faith is just a concept you think you believe.

1. 하나님이 자기를 찾는 자들에게 상주시는 이심을 믿는 것이다.

2. Believe God rewards anyone who seek Him.

이 후에 여호와의 말씀이 환상 중에 아브람에게 임하여 이르시되 아브람아 두려워하지 말라 나는 네 방패요 너의 지극히 큰 상급이니라(창15:1)

After this, the word of the Lord came to Abram in a vision:

“Do not be afraid, Abram.

I am your shield,

your very great reward.”

(Genesis 15: !)

너희가 온 마음으로 나를 구하면 나를 찾을 것이요 나를 만나리라(렘29:13)

You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart. (Jeremiah 29: 13)

하나님은 자기보다 더 큰 상이 없다는 것을 알고, 아브라함에게 나타나서 자신이 최고의 상이라고 말씀하셨습니다.

God said there is no greater reward than Himself, when He appeared in front of Abraham.

여러분은 하나님을 날마다 쉬지 않고 그분의 이름을 부르며 전심으로 찾고 계신가요?

Do you constantly call Him and seek Him with all your heart and soul?

만약 여러분이 하나님이 기뻐하시는 믿음이 있다면, 최고의 큰상이신 하나님이 자기를 찾아오시도록 전심으로 찾고 찾지 않겠습니까?

If you have faith God rejoices, wouldn’t you be seeking God and ask Him to come to you?

그러나 여러분은 하나님이 진짜 살아계셔서 자신의 삶과 영혼을 선한 길로 이끄시며, 놀라운 능력을 주셔서 요긴하신 종으로 사용하신다는 믿음이 없기에 하나님을 전심으로 찾고 그분의 이름을 부르지 않는 겁니다.

But you don’t call God because you don’t have faith to believe God will lead your way and give you amazing power.

안타깝게도, 대부분의 우리네 교인들은 하루에 10분도 기도하지 않습니다.

Unfortunately, most Christians don’t even pray for 10 minutes a day.

새벽기도회에 나가서 기도하는 이들도, 하나님을 찾는 기도가 아니라 자신의 유익을 구하다가 돌아오곤 하죠.

Ad even when they do, they list all the worldly things they’ve wanted.

이렇게 하나님을 찾지 않는 이들이 어떻게 하나님을 기쁘시게 하는 믿음이 있겠습니까?

How can people have faith God rejoices, if they don’t seek Him?

신앙의 연륜이 오래되고 교회직분이 드높은 사람들도, 무능하고 무기력한 믿음으로 고단하고 팍팍하게 살고 있는 이유이죠.

And that is why Christians live in misery despite their numerous years spent in church.

그러므로 여러분에게 성경에서 말하는 믿음의 증거가 없다면 하나님과 아무런 상관이 없는 사람에 불과합니다.

So there is no use if you don’t have the signs mentioned in the Bible; you have nothing to do with God.

아니라면 성경에 위의 말씀들을 심심해서 기록하였겠습니까?

I mean, people did not write the Bible out of boredom, right?

자신들이 믿고 싶은 말씀들만 믿는 교인들에게 천국은 언감생심일 겁니다.

To those who believe and listen to what they like, Heaven is a mere dream. An unachievable dream.
