The Kung Wo Soybean Products Factory in Kowloon City is a century-old shop that opened in 1893 and is now the third generation to operate. The manual stone grinding in the kitchen is used 98 years already!

位於九龍城的公和荳品廠是一間百年老店,於1893年開業直到現在的第三代接棒經營,廚房內的手動石磨,至今已有九十八年歷史!



During the heyday of Kung Wo Soybean Products Factory, there were branches in all districts of Hong Kong. At present, there are only two stores in Kowloon City and Sham Shui Po. By the 1990s, Mr. So, who was originally a guest of the Kung Wo neighborhood, took over.

公和荳品廠的全盛時期,全港各區都有分店,現時卻只剩下九龍城店和深水埗店兩間,至九十年代,由原本是公和街坊客仔的蘇老闆接手!



Look at the old ceiling fans, white porcelain brick walls, and the high-rise floor of the official Chinese character “ Kung Wo”, all of them are full of strong historical odors!

看看那古舊的吊扇,白瓷方磚鋪牆,還有在隸書紅色大字招牌「公和」的高樓底,全部都充滿濃厚的歷史氣味!



It used to be an old-style square table and a small folding stool. It has now become a high table and a high stool, and the use of plastic utensils to replace the original traditional tile bowl, because something happened at a few years ago, this old shop will almost end!

以前是舊式的方桌與小摺凳,現在變成高桌與高凳,並且使用塑膠食具取代了原來的傳統瓦碗,因為幾年前的一段小插曲,這老店差點便要結業了!



The matter is that the shop holds a food factory license. According to the Food Business Regulation, a food factory licence can only be used to formulate food for sale outside the premises. The FEHD suddenly enforced the law, wrote a letter accusing the police of the violation and fined it. The shop was forced to change all the food utensils to disposable plastic utensils, and even took away the original stool!

事緣是荳品店所持有的是食物製造廠牌照,根據《食物業規例》,食物製造廠牌照只可配製食物出售供人在處所以外地方進食。食環署突然執法,出信控告違規,並要罰款,豆品店被迫將食具全部改為即棄膠餐具,甚至將原來的枱櫈全部拆走!



Fortunately, as the fourth generation, they are willing to examine how they can cooperate with the FEHD's guidelines and apply for restaurant licenses, spend a million to refurbish, and renovate them to ensure the traditional style and equipment!

幸好作為公和第四代的負責人願意透過顧問公司檢視如何配合食環署指引,申領食肆牌照,斥資百萬翻新,重新裝修之餘亦力保傳統的風格、設備!



Do you know what this basket is used to? If your age is old enough to see many shops in childhood use these basket to collect money!

你知道這個簍子是用來做什麼的嗎?年紀夠大才能在兒時看過很多店舖也是用這些簍子來收錢的!



Today's soy milk is all bottled, and former residents will use their own thermos or glass bottles to buy them. It is very environmentally friendly!

現在的豆漿全部都是瓶裝的,以前的街坊們會拿自己的保溫瓶或玻璃樽去買的,非常環保!



Now there are also some fresh sticky rice cakes with different tastes, as well as exclusive homemade fermented bean curd!

現在還有售賣各款味道的砵仔糕,還有獨家秘製的腐乳!



In the end, of course, a bowl of beancurd must be taken! Yummy yummy!

最後,當然要來一碗豆腐花,好味!

我最喜歡這種老店啦,今天還同媽媽講,説新店有新店的味道但是吃遍了以後還是會想回到老店去吃東西

對吧,老店已經買少見少了,要多多光顧呀~

依間唔錯,但西貢有間仲正😋😋

西貢半山上面喎~以前行山食過咋。都忘了名字了
大埔「亞婆豆腐花 」也是一流

What a good trip I had through your photos @kona. 😄 Made me think that -- what if, until today we would buy milk with our own milk bottles, I imagined for a few seconds, might take time for us all to get used to it but it is indeed environmentally friendly, and could be fun too! 😄
