Arnold Matthias Brunckhorst, Sonata, A DursteemCreated with Sketch.

in #classical-music5 years ago (edited)

Besides the one Prelude in e minor published some days ago, there survives one other work for keyboard instrument by Arnold Matthias Brunckhorst: the one movement Sonata in A major. According to Spitta and Wolffheim, J. S. Bach at one time owned the autograph of a keyboard sonata by Brunckhorst, possibly even this sonata. It is regarded as the earliest German example the form of the two-part sonata structure, comparable to type encountered in the works of Domenico Scarlatti. It's originally meant for harpsichord, but works very well on the organ too.

The recording was done on the sample set of the Holzey organ of St. Peter and Paul in Weissenau by Prospectum.
