Johann Pachelbel, Herr Christ, der einig Gottes Sohn

in #classical-music5 years ago (edited)

Pachelbel's prelude to "Herr Christ, der einig Gottes Sohn" has the choral melody in the bass. The upper two voices play a free, fast moving accompaniment, with short segments of fore imitation. There is another prelude by Pachelbel based on the same choral melody that has a similar setup (available here as well) for the second half of that piece (the first half consists of a fugue on the first fragment of the choral melody). The figurations are however very different. It's intruiging to note that although the compositional technique is similar, the result is very different.

The recording was done on the sample set of the Müller-organ in the Sint Bavokerk in Haarlem by Voxus Organs for Hauptwerk.
