When it comes to forex trading, there are two of the industry’s leading trading platforms on the market. They are MetaTrader 4 (MT4) and MetaTrader 5 (MT5).

What are they and what for?

You may think that MT5 is the updated and newer version of MT4, but that is not essentially true.

Both provide pioneering automated trading systems with expert advisors. However, they actually serve a very different function.

In short, MT4 was specifically built for forex traders whereas MT5 has forex trading function but also was designed to provide traders with access to CFDs, stocks, and futures. To conclude, MT5 is the superset of MT4.

Which one should I choose?

To answer, It’s all about user preference.

However, if the user is new to trading or just wants to trade forex, MT4 is simpler to use and more suitable for beginners.

Having said that, If you intended to gain more access to different markets like stocks and futures, then MT5 is for you.

Forex trading is hard and versatile. It can be frustrating to Forex traders when the markets don’t go smooth. Any helper?

Affected by news, rumors, Forex traders can become greedy or fearful. Hence they will make bad decisions that potentially worsen their accounts. MT4 provided a way to avoid this issue by using Expert Advisor, or EA.

What exactly is Expert Advisor or EA?

An EA is an automated trading system that automatically opens and closes trades based on predefined rules with technical indicators. Most EA is programmed to identify market patterns hence advising traders when it is a good time to sell or buy.

One upside to use EAs is that they help to reduce the chance of making emotional and irrational trading decisions, these are commonly affecting novices or inexperienced Forex traders.

Fx trading is 24/5. EA can trade for you with those predefined settings without taking a break and trade around the clock on your behalf according to your predefined settings.
