Simple Syrup

in #cocktail5 years ago

Anyone who likes mixing cocktails at home should have a recipe for simple syrup up their sleeve. On top of being a great sweetener that mixes in easily to cocktails, it can also be used to sweeten things like iced coffees and teas or used as a glaze on baked goods.

Like the name suggests, simple syrup is simple to make. This easy to make addition to your home bar will bring your cocktail game to a whole new level. And if you want to take it even further, simple syrup can easily be infused with herbs or fruits, like rosemary, lavender, or lemon, by adding them to the creation stage and disposing of them before placing the simple syrup in its container to cool.

Simple syrup is made with a 1:1 ratio, so feel free to cut or double where necessary, as long as you are using equal parts water and sugar.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup water
  • 1 cup sugar

Place water into a saucepan, heat on medium low until water is hot (not boiling). Stir in the sugar with a whisk, stir until fully dissolved, about 3 minutes. Remove from heat.

Simple syrup should be stored in a glass container and refrigerated. It will last up to 3 weeks.
