Iris - a mythological flower

Iris is a perennial plant of the iridescent family. There are 210 species of irises, most of them intended for planting in the garden.

Iriss are wonderful garden plants, found in many color combinations: blue and purple, white and yellow, pink and orange, brown and red or even black.

The natural habitat of the iris is varied: some grow in the desert, others grow in marshes, others in frost, and many prefer climate temperate.

• Cultivation of the iris

The optimum planting period is between late July and September. It is preferable to plant the iris so that it is exposed to the sun, otherwise it will not bloom, and be a bit up the hill, as the water does not stagnate around them.

Before planting the iris, fertilize the soil with organic matter. Iriss can grow from both seeds and bulbs.

Bulbs should not be planted very deeply. If the soil is difficult, gravel must be added to the dump for drainage.

• Care of the iris

Irish blooms every year if they are well-kept.

Remove the dried leaves regularly, and then, in April and June, fertilize them.

Make sure they are not surrounded by weeds, as they retain the moisture and the next year will not bloom.

To encourage the second bloom of the iris species that supports this, it easily removes the dried flowers and wets the plants well in the summer.

The word Iris means Rainbow. Iris was the goddess of love in Greek mythology. In the language of flowers, iris means eloquence, communication and messages.
