Secrets of horticulturists: how to have a tulip culture like in the Netherlands

in #colorchallenge6 years ago

The tulip is probably one of the most widespread flowers in the world, found in public gardens and parks in northern Europe and as far as Asia. However, it was mistaken for the idea that these brightly colored flowers are originating in the Netherlands, which in reality is just the country that has transformed the production of tulips and flowers in general into a real industry.

The tulip has its origins in the North-Asian region, and Turkey has the supremacy in terms of variety of species. Specifies this country and obviously the most appreciated by locals is the tulip in elongated shape, with a lily-like flower. The fact that it is a plant in the North Asian region is consecrated by its scientific name, the "tulip", which derives from the word "Taliban" which in Persian means "turban". In Europe, more precisely in Vienna, the tulips have come somewhere in the middle of the sixteenth century, brought by a merchant from Constantinople. In Holland, another merchant from Antwerp was brought to the end of the century. It planted some flower bulbs and it was not long before the entire country was covered by "tulip madness." This happened in the 1600s. Since then, the Dutch's passion for this flower has been found to have found a favorable soil in North Europe to grow.

The passion for these flowers has led European horticulturists to produce varieties that remain "alive" throughout the year, not just in the spring. Thus, on the market there are early early spring tulips in March-April, and some blooming in early summer. "Early tulips can be single or double flower. They generally have a height of 25-40 cm and the flowering period is 16 days. Instead, the half-timbered tulips are somewhat taller and can have a 50-cm rod, they have the elongated cup shape and the colors are brilliant. The late tulips, obtained for the first time by a French horticulturist in Lille (Jules Lenglart) in 1886, are highly appreciated as cut flowers. The flowers are very large, well formed, with rounded petals at the top, unicolored or multicolored and with rods of 60-70 cm. They bloom in mid-May. There are also the late tulips with peony flowers with more than six petals and the diameter of the flower can reach up to 11-13 cm, "explained Ruxandra Gâlă, a Horticultural Engineer.

Also in May, the horticultural engineer says, the tulips with blooming lilies bloom.

Horticultural engineer Ruxandra Gulla argues that for a successful crop of tulips, a sandy, well-grounded and neutral PH requires ground. The land must be exposed to the sun and the water should drain very well. Tulip bulbs are planted at 10 cm deep, with the sharpened side up and the distance between them should be about 10 to 15 centimeters. When buying bulbs from tulips, we need to pay attention to their quality, says Ruxandra Gulla. First of all, the bulbs must be whole, uniform, with no traces of kicks and hard to touch. If the bulbs are soft it means they are dehydrated. In addition, if they have mold traces and have a bad smell, you should avoid buying them. When preparing the land for planting tulips, special fertilizers for flowering plants in the form of controlled release granules can be added, that is to say they provide fertilization for a longer period of 1-3 months.
