Color Challenge - Tuesday Orange - Arrowleaf Balsamroot Flower Stamen
May is the month of flowers. Most all of the local native plants blow up with a profusion of flowers that fills in many areas of the farm. The Balsamroot has taken over a specific area that gets good sunlight, has less overhead tree canopy, and overlooks the river and town. The yellow flowers pop against the green and grown backgrounds and match well with the masses of dandelions that have spread across the farm. The stamen of each flower is capped with a mass of bright orange pollen and the subtle contrast of the yellow and orange create an interesting gradient effect across the flower's face.
The stands of Balsamroot generally have multiple flower stalks rising from a common root base. Each flower within the group has a slightly unique appearance, shape, and color. It is a comforting plant to have around since they were everywhere around the house I grew up in in California.
