AIR PURIFYING PLANTS (PART 4) COLORCHALLENGE GREEN THURSDAY
The Spider Plant or (Chlorophytum Comosum), was popular in the 1970s, and were often seen in hanging baskets around our homes. Today they are making a comeback for different reasons, and are incorperated into the home for air purification purposes.
The Spider Plant is easy to grow, (although they do not like too much water), and will thrive in a wide range of conditions. Native to South Africa, there are many types of species of Spider Plant, and some of these are edible, and very high in nutrients.
In the home, the Spider Plant will help eliminate formaldehyde, xylene and toluene from the air. They greatly benefit in the removal of carbon monoxide, which in turn provides more oxygen in our homes.
They produce pretty white flowers that develop into mini Spider Plants, called " Spiderettes", which easily grow into new plants.
Interestingly, studies show that adding plants into hospital rooms will help speed recovery in surgical patients, and they are released from hospital sooner, in comparison to patients in rooms without plants. Much like animals can provide a form of therapy to unwell people as well.
The Spider Plant is non-toxic to pets, unlike some of the other indoor plants I have posted about.
There are many more indoor plants that have been scientifically proven to aid indoor air quality and over time I will post about these also. So, which plants should we choose to have in our homes? Well, the more variety of houseplants you keep indoors, the greater the variety of toxins they will remove, leaving us with fresh clean air.

We have a couple of those! But my Humans have had to put them up VERY high to avoid me nibbling on them... they are so tempting, with those long dangling hangy things!
