Colour King

One of the brightest pops of colour on most Central Pacific tropical reefs is this fish, the King Angelfish, Holacanthus passer, these are something to behold and photograph.

These large reef dwelling fish are similar to the Queen Angelfish, both having what appears to be a crown on their heads but differ in their colouration. Both of these fish are highly sought after in the aquarium world due to their ease of care and brilliant colour.

From a photography stand point King Angle’s are fairly inquisitive fish and not all that shy. You can get quite close and get some fantastic images.

    Im in the coast of Oaxaca, Mexico (central pacific) but even when I've been freediving every day for the last month I never saw one of these… :(
    Also I believe all the coral here is dead :(

    Love those colors, reminds me of wading in the tidepools near Okinawa, and the Aluetian islands.

          They sure are a beauty to look at.The color of the King Angelfish is indeed very amazing :)
          The smaller ones Holacanthus passer are pretty nice as well :)
