The dawn was conquering the night and the first rays of the sun were bathing the city, she was exhausted after working all the night shift, barely making all the deadlines she checked out and left, taking a tired step after another she felt a sudden hit in her stomach, hunger had reached her causing her acute pain, but the greatest pain was delivered by her wallet, the payday was far away and she was almost broke, but the solution was warm as the sun behind her, a empanadas stand, just in front of her.

She knew they were delicious and most importantly cheap, everyone around the stand had one, they were eating vigorously as expected of anyone munching on those perfect culinary miracles, as she approached she noticed the stand was almost empty, the only empanadas left were under the label SURPRISE, she asked the clerk "are those good?" knowing the answer in her heart, no empanada is bad, he answered "of course, and they're still warm" with a huge smile in his face that almost crossed the line to sinister, she had to spend the little she had on a couple of empanadas and took it to eat them in the comfort of her home

Finally, at home, she changed her clothes, lay down in her favorite spot on her couch and turned on the tv to let the toxic stream of work-related thought wash away into the void of scheduled broadcasted bullshit, she opened the bag and took the first warm empanada and with the voracity of blind hunger she took the first bite, time stopped, bitterness surrounded her, the flavor was at first unrecognizable, it was meat but it was somehow grainy and thick, an unchewable paste, it spread a metallic flavor around her mouth, she stood up and ran lighting fast to the kitchen sink, she knew then as she puked it all, what it was... LIVER

Broken, financially and deep in her soul, she watches aimlessly, with glassy eyes out the window, thinking in confusion and indignation as the other empanada lied cold and untouched, what kind of degenerate creature would make a liver empanada and label it surprise...
