A few quick comic reviews
Black Widow - Natalia Romanova vs Yelena Belova
Consisting of a couple miniseries (Black Widow Vol 1 & 2), this saga is very enjoyable, showing Natalia Romanova (Natasha Romanoff in the films), the Black Widow we know and love, up against another 'Black Widow', trying to claim her title. It's a lot of fun with some great espionage. Daredevil also shows up which is a plus.
Captain America Vol 3 (Mark Waid and Dan Jurgens)
When I initially started reading comics I foolishly tried to read everything, then I tried reading everything from around 1998. I stuck with it for a bit but eventually gave up. The highlight of this early reading though (and a comic I stuck with to the end) was Captain America Vol 3, initially by Mark Waid and then by Dan Jurgens. This run starts interestingly with Cap losing his precious shield and shows us how he deals with this, as he considers his shield as almost a part of him. This series also shows Cap give dating a go. I really enjoyed the alternate universe dystopian future arc as well as the arc where Cap had to fight against Protocide, the prototype for what Cap would become. Great series.
Daredevil: Yellow by Jeph Loeb
A phenomenal look back at Matt Murdock's early days as Daredevil in the wake of a tragic loss. Incredibly touching, this is a fantastic series. Highly recommended.
Ghost Rider Vol 5 (The Road to Damnation) by Garth Ennis
A fantastic Ghost Rider story written by the mastermind behind many dark and edgy comics. This features an excellent story about hell, angels and archangels and features some of the best art I've ever seen in a comic. Highly recommended.
Punisher Vol 5 (Welcome Back, Frank) by Garth Ennis
Ennis' first work with the Punisher is dark and violent but also hilariously over the top. Featuring bear punching and a massive stereotypical Russian hitman, this is a wild ride. Steve Dillon's art is a little simple but it works well with the Punisher.
