A New Vehicle Every Month

in #community6 years ago

Stopping to really look at pricing on new vehicles made me stop and think to myself, these prices are stupid. @imaginedragon and I were looking at getting a new truck and the average cost for what we want is between $58,000 and $72,000 depending on which make and model we were looking at.

At the standard 60 month purchase on the $58,000 truck is $966.66 per month, just for the truck.

At the standard 60 month purchase on the $72,000 truck is $1,200 per month, just for the truck.

This does not include insurance, tires, oil changes, cleaning the truck or any other basic maintenance.

You also have to figure that the truck will lose 20% to 38% as soon as you drive it off of the lot depending on exactly what aftermarket changes you had made to the vehicle at the time of purchase.

Looking forward to the future and how our family size will change over the next few years as the older kids move out and go to college, we faced the issue of needing one size vehicle now and a different one in as little as one year.

This got me thinking, do I want to buy something big now and have too much vehicle after a year or two or buy something smaller and need more space.

We also plan on moving out of the US in the next few years so we would have to sell this new vehicle in two years as well.

Knowing all of this, our issue is as follows.

1.) We really need two different sized vehicles.

2.) Anything we buy will lose value the second we buy it.

3.) We have to sell our purchase in the next few years.

4.) There are additional charges associated with any purchase.

So how does one solve all of these issues as well as save upwards of $18,000 in the process?

Monthly Enterprise rentals.

We are able to rent a fully loaded truck for around $650 per month. We don't have to do any maintenance or even bother to wash the vehicle.

In the event next month we want to take a family trip we can rent a 15 passenger van instead.

We can also rent a Porsche or Lambo to go have fun in, they have these at https://exoticcars.enterprise.com/en/home.html

The rental cost is less than the purchase price, we don't have to worry about any maintenance, no issues of not having the right or desired vehicle for whatever we want to do. We don't have to worry about our purchase losing value and there is no issue about having to sell it when it is time to move.

This is my trick to not only save money over the next two years but also how we will always have the correct vehicle for our family over the next two years until we move.

This is our current monthly vehicle, we had the white one in the previous post last month.

A basic move that saves $18000, I call it genius

We are leasing cars for many years now. Its way less problematic. Car flipping at least here in Germany is maybe a bit more cheap maybe even profitable but ofcouse not on monthly but 12 month base and only with price stable, used higher class cars.

But compared 650$ per Month for a truck that big sounds realy a good deal.

you could even review them if there are some interesting ones, changing car on monthly base is a opportunity

nice, full size trucks are pretty spendy once you load up the options, I have been seeing some pretty decent lease offers of late as they clear out the 2018s.

Leases are cheaper but you're locked into one vehicle, limited miles and you have to do the upkeep.

Indeed, I did run up against the mileage issue, usually you can get maintenance included on a new car lease. I had everything covered but tires and for most people those last more than 2 months, I assume they would last most people 2 years. Most people don't take their leased car to the track.

This way, we have to do zero upkeep. Time is very important and even changing the oil is a waste of valuable time within our family.

Good point, I have to imagine you spend some time at the rental counter changing vehicles and such.

Takes about 10 minutes between a phone call to select the vehicle and checking out. We are only on our second month, I am sure we will experience some sort of problem before all of it is said and done.
