Life On STEEM—Conversations (Comments Always Welcome)

in #community5 years ago

We Interrupt This Broadcast...

Everywhere, in the far reaching corners of the STEEM blockchain (and on Discord), conversations are taking place. Let's listen in on some of them.

group-1825510_1280.jpg

People are ignoring my posts! It's so unfair.

That is unfair. It happens to me, too.

It's all the whales' fault! They've got enough. They should be giving back. Helping others. Helping me.

Yeah, they should! But what can we do about it?

I'm going to write a post, tell everyone what I think!

That's great, but, if they're ignoring your post, what good is that going to do?

I'll buy some votes—from bidbots! Get it trending! They'll be forced to do something about it then.

Except, a lot of people ignore trending because they think the posts are basically trash because the authors put them there, not the people through their upvotes.

Well, there's got to be something I can do. My voice deserves be heard!

What about joining or forming a community? I've heard there are all kinds of contests and prizes and upvotes.

Hmmm. I guess that sounds worth checking out. I'm still going to write that post, though.

Meanwhile, elsewhere...

You know, if I read one more post or comment about whales not doing their fair share...

It definitely gets old. I guess the fact that there's even a STEEM to begin with and folks maintaining it, that's not enough for people.

I don't have time to slog through all the content, anyway, looking for something I actually want to upvote.

Who does? I've been working on a (something developers will understand, but few others) fix for (something else developers will get).

Yeah, I know what you mean. I'm trying to get my killer dApp up and running. It all takes time, man!

Still, someplace else...

You know, I've put in so much time and effort into this plankton/minnow growth initiative (of your choice), I don't have much time to grow my own account. All my focus is on helping others.

I've been wondering just how big my account would be if I spent more time working on it, rather than trying to get the smaller accounts on a better footing. Retention rates on STEEM are just horrendous, and that can't be good.

Yeah, we need to help people, get them stable. I just wish there was more people contributing. I know I can't do this indefinitely. I'm barely a minnow myself!

Another corner, another conversation...

This platform is worthless and pointless. For something that calls itself a social media platform, it's forgotten the social part! It's about as anti-social as it gets! It's all about the money!

People just don't take the time to read and comment. Everything's automated. I appreciate the upvote, but I want more. I want people to see my work. I want to talk to people.

The problem is, everyone wants to post and have their stuff seen, but no one wants to actually read and comment on anything. We need more consumers of content, not less.

Yeah, and since you can't make a whole lot off curation, that's not going to happen.

Hey, have you heard of (STEEM clone). It's supposed to be way better!

Maybe I should check that out.

Believe It Or Not, Another Corner...

Sorry to spam your post, but this blankety-blank blank above deserves it. They're the worst scum on the face of the earth. Sorry for the auto-flag, too. It can't be helped.

Like you're one to talk, you blank blankety blank. If you would quit (fill in the blank) this would all be over!

You're a blankety-blank blank!

Your mother is a blankety-blank blank!

Blank you!

You first!

One More, Even Though This Is Just The Tip Of The Iceberg...

We need more investors. STEEM is doomed if we don't get more money flowing to raise prices.

It doesn't help that we've got all of this stuff happening on the platform. We were already the laughing stock of the crypto community because of the way the initial token distribution went down. Now, people look at STEEM like it's nothing more than a Ponzi scheme.

There's got to be a way to overcome that. We've got enough small accounts. We need BIG ones!

We need more gaming apps like STEEM Monsters, Drugwars and Magic Dice! That's what we need.

While the conversations above are all made up, they are meant to represent conversations which happen all the time regarding STEEM, and in most cases, one conversation is a combination of multiple ones.

That is a good summary of many posts. This was my favorite. :-)

Shocking new revelations that the world is indeed...

Yeah, I liked that myself, @giddyupngo. :)

Well, I'm glad you thought it summed up things well. That last part of the different posts was kind of an afterthought, but more people seem to have connected with it, so hey, I'm glad I did it. :)

Congratulations! Your post has been selected as a daily Steemit truffle! It is listed on rank 10 of all contributions awarded today. You can find the TOP DAILY TRUFFLE PICKS HERE.

I upvoted your contribution because to my mind your post is at least 6 SBD worth and should receive 194 votes. It's now up to the lovely Steemit community to make this come true.

I am able to recognize most of them indeed. Funny that these kind of posts are all over the place. Nothing to do about it I guess. I will keep going and try to post/comment my thoughts.

Hey, @lion200.

I'm glad you were able to recognize them. I was putting things into my own words and so could have missed the point, so I'm glad they were still discernible that way.

I would hope there would be things we can do. Maybe some things are beyond our reach, but surely we can change some others. Not a single person perhaps, but a group of us could. There's definitely a lot of alliances, councils and communities formed to at least try. :)

However, I agree, moving forward posting and commenting about this and whatever else is a good thing.

I think I have seen all those examples somewhere on steem. Heck I may even have been a part of one or two of those examples, who knows after 21 moons, omg 21, that makes me legal now, oh wait I was legal at 18 to vote I forgot, oh well now I can drink the kool-aid the whales offer me.

Days gone by, and days to come, for me this mostly is still fun.

I took @abh12345's word earlier from a post he made where he replied that getting mad wasn't going to accomplish anything, so might as well make light of it. :)

Well, good. I'm glad you were able to recognize them. I was trying to mimic but in my own words so it's possible for things to get lost in translation. I was honestly not thinking of anyone in particular, except for the flagging whales and their associates. There's really not a whole lot else of that going on that I know of.

Yeah, time keeps on marching. Doesn't seem to want to stop, and willingly or not, we go with it.

Twenty-one moons, eh? Why, you're just a kid! :) I think I'm 26 or 27 moons. BIG difference. :)

:)

I'm glad you took that comment and brought it here - much more entertaining to read yet another post about the same topics :P

Oh, I figured you'd love it, @abh12345. :)

Also it serves as proof that I am teachable still, and actually do listen to you (people in general).

It was actually much easier to write than the serious piece I was attempting, too. :)

I haven't read that many, if any, that put such disparate conversations together, though. I don't know if anyone else feels like this, but it was striking to me just how much is going on and how much we all seem to be living in our own bubbles.

LOL. No posts need to be written from this day on. From this day on every post can just say:

"I wanted to create an original post but according to @glenalbrethsen's list of topics I was echoing hundreds of Steemians before me. So I'll just shut up now."

;-)

I found this funny to read, and the list is pretty much 'complete' :D

Hey, @soyrosa.

I'm glad you found it funny. I was definitely wanting to take a poke at any and all of us who have been involved in any of those conversations, from whatever side. I know I have found myself in a few of them, and maybe wanting to be in a couple more. Which is odd, since I know that there's always more to it than what we are able to discern.

re: no posts

Um, well, okay. :) Wasn't exactly what I was going for. I just find it odd that I keep hearing about these conversations, but don't see them that much personally, but mostly people carry on their business as if there were nothing to see.

I don't know. I'm just not much of one for talking about the same things over and over again. It would be nice to actually identify solutions, if any, and implement them instead of kicking the same dead horse over and over and over. :)

It's sad that there is so much drama that goes on here. So many expectations that no other chain deals with as they are viewed solely for the tech and investment. It's because it has such a low barrier of entry as Dan created it to have that it draws many who have unrealistic expectations.

You can see it in those who could afford to invest, yet don't and expect to somehow become rich solely from posts. Many of which lack substance and could be found for free elsewhere. The irony in all of that is that those who do invest find the growth comes faster, as the gains for most at first are nominal at best. But water rises (or stays low) to its own level.

So many claim they want decentralization while crying no one is centralizing to make them rich. Thankfully I have proven that one does not have to participate on the Discord channels to grow here. I often wonder how much drama spills over from there to here. I don't know how anyone even has time for Discord, as this site takes so much time to begin with.

Hey, @practicalthought.

The more I think about this, the more I realize that people are their own worst enemies. They want to earn rewards, but instead of letting things take off naturally and putting in the time, they head off for the workarounds that people are more than willing to supply them, and if they can find what's supposedly a shortcut, they go for it. So, we have bidbots, we have self-voting, we have circle voting, we have resteem and curating bots you can pay, that all fill up a trending page that should mean something, but most believe it doesn't, while all of this upvoting chicanery messes with the reputation system, that was meant to mean something, only now it doesn't, while swirling the reward pool in favor of the few rather than the many (or so I'm told—I'm still trying to figure out how that all works).

So, people complain about no one seeing their posts, when they don't read/upvote/comment on other posts nearly as much as they need to, if at all, we have people oblivious to any issues because things are hunky dory on their end or their too busy with other things, we have people who are working harder for the sake of others, and probably moreso than many of those beneficiaries are for themselves, while others want to just tear it all down because they feel wronged somehow.

It's just an ongoing round of perpetual self-imposed misery and self-fulfilling prophecy.

I'm also happy to say that my earnings have not come from any deals, groveling, relationship building or whatever you want to call it happening on Discord. I don't know how fast it's growing in comparison to others, but I think we're both able to say that it's possible to do, and we don't have to split time between the site that actually allows for rewards, and the one that might facilitate it.

Hey, @newageinv.

Yeah. I missed out on that one, didn't I? :) I probably should check into that more. It's not like the exercise wouldn't hurt, and if I'm going to do something, I might as well earn something for it, right? I'd need to do more with the report post than most of the ones I see though in order to feel like I was actually contributing something worth reading, or getting upvotes for. :)
