A Glass and a half is not real chocolate.

I saw a post today from@erikah about fake coffee that has never seen a coffee bean yet they still call it coffee. The one good thing is once they try and market it globally they won't be allowed to call it coffee. Luckily we have laws out there protecting us from these fakes or do we?

Something that stands out to me when I think of a product that cons everyone is the so called "chocolate " manufacturers. How and why are the so called manufacturers allowed to get away with something that they don't even manufacture. Cadbury's slogan used to be a "a glass and a half" referring to the amount of full cream milk in every bar of Dairy Milk.

If we delve deeper and have a closer look you will find of 426 ml of milk in every 227 g of milk chocolate. That is 4 bars in today's world as they all lost shrunk in the last few years due to so called increases and more like profiteering. That equates to around half a cup of milk per slab. If we look at the advertising it is rather misleading. It used to be one and a half cups of milk in a 250 gram bar but the slogan was used on the smaller slabs as well. The slab has more than half it's weight made up in sugar.

When I was in Europe a few years ago I was pleasantly surprised to see Cadbury's and Nestle demoted off the chocolate counters and placed with the confectionery. These brands are not chocolate as they also fail the test for the amount of cacao in the "chocloate". These so called chocolates if pulled apart would show you that there is virtually no chocolate present.

If you look at the various brands you will be shocked at what is what.
The Hershey bar has 11% cacao and is only that high percentage wise as the United States has a minimum of 10 percent required. Cadbury,Nestle,Kinder and Milka are in single figures percentage wise. Snickers is 2% chocolate and is full of flavorings and sugar.

I wish more people would look at what they are purchasing and force these companies to increase the main ingredient. That will never happen though as the public doesn't even know what is real chocolate anymore. I was looking in the shop today and the display boxes of all these companies still have the name chocolate on them. Sugar candy is what it really is and doesn't sound as appealing does it.

I'm frequently having that quiet conversation in my head, about how so many products are misleading with their advertising and how most things aren't what they lead you to believe.

Some products with old brand names may have never been close to what they pretended to be, but even if they were, the companies have cheapened them so much, while still spewing the false advertising, that most are only a hint of what they say. If you don't care, then keep on keeping one, but if you do, you have to really watch your labels.

I wish there were real truth in advertising required, unfortunately there is not. Most of today's popular "chocolates" are pretty much just chcolate "flavored". To bad they don't have to say so.

That is why it was so refreshing in Europe to see the "chocolates" not allowed to be with the real chocolates. You will find your Cote d'or but no Cadbury's as they are in a different section. This made sense and just showed who was the real deal.
I think a lot of products have moved so far away from what they originally were that they don't resemble anything of what they were.

I think separating them would be a great idea. I wish they would do that here. I'm guessing the "real" would be a far smaller section than the "pretends".

There are several products that I will never buy again, that use to be my favorites. They are only a ghost of what they once were. Too bad there is no pride in quality anymore. I don't mind paying a little more for the real thing, but maybe most people don't feel that way.

I think the majority doesn't know there is a difference. If you have been raised on junk that is all you are going to know. Funny enough the price difference isn't that big between real and fake.

You may be right.

I happen to be old enough to have been alive when more people had pride in their products. Big difference now.

People really don't know. A woman in my work hates real chocolate and goes on about how awful it is all the time whilst gorging on cadburys. Lol

They are a bunch of muppets with no clue.

I am a bigger fan of Dove and Lindor when it come to chocolate. I have also started to be more okay with dark chocolate than I used to be. That makes me feel a lot better about eating it!

Most people don't even care. Many of them look at the price and that's all. They have no idea what they are eating.
