Tio leads the way, as you cautiously approach the cage, tiptoeing over the sand in your heavy boots.
“Go on Mendo,” Tio says.
Lifting a corner of the tarp, you peek under.
“It’s fucking Elvis! Young and, dude, he looks gooood!” you say.
Standing back up, you turn to the band, Machete and Tres are already looking expectantly at Tio, but he’s staring at you.
“What do we do now?” Tio asks.
Wracking your mind, you come across it, a passable plan. Ducking under the tarp, you cling to the bars, addressing the Elvis.
“Elvis, there you are! You’ve been locked up by a madman, and we’re you’re number one cover band. That dude Oddy, he messed up your memory man, he’s been playing with you.”
Elvis blinks at you, a little blankly, before jumping into a song mid chorus.
“I want to be free free, free!”
You smile.
“That’s what we’re here for dude! Gonna free you up in just a sec now, but that nut job’s only gonna come after us, we need to stop him, what do you say man, will you help us?”
Jumping straight into another song part way through, he keeps his voice low.
“It would sure do me good to do you good, let me help.”
“Sweeeet!”
Tres pokes his head under the tarp,
“Need a lock springing?”
You grin, gesturing towards the padlock. A few pokes and a little wiggle of Machete’s knife later, and the padlock pops open.
Elvis swings the door open, jumping free from the cage with a little hip shimmy, but your exchange caught the attention of Captain Murphy, and seeing the figure lolloping strangely across the beach, you set out towards Oddy’s colonial mansion to confront him.
You lead the way, ducking between the trees, staying just off the path as you head toward the opulent entrance, ornate white columns frame the doorway, shining in the warm sun.
Tio barges through the door first, you all tumble in after him, expecting to find a smooth, and deserted, marbled hall.
To your horror, you skid across the smooth floor, into an array of scientific equipment, and your host, Oddy, looking less than impressed. Spread eagled on the floor, you glance up to see Elvis sauntering in after you.
I don't even know how to picture young Elvis anymore, especially after Bubba Hotep.
