A Favorite Freewrite

Every Tuesday, you have a chance to win a membership to Steem Basic Income, SBI, at the Freewrite House.

Try to win one, my friends. An everlasting vote on your posts is nothing to sneeze at.

We want to make it super easy for you. Your task is to tell us in the comment section about one - or more- freewrites of others you have read in the last couple of days you really liked. Yup, not your own!!

The comment must be at least 50 words long - no upper limit 🤪

See the rules below for details.

In an ideal world, you also give that person a nice upvote - but we are not going to check on that.

To be entered into the drawing, go to the Daily Prompt post by @mariannewest. We are doing our best to resteem them to the Freewrite house profile.
Read as many Freewrites as you can. Then tell us about a freewrite you really liked and why.
Choose from the last couple of days if possible so others can go, visit, and, inspired by your description, leave a vote.

I looked at the prompt for pig's ear this week - sigh... But I found some excellent posts!

@rokhani gives us a fable about why the pig's ear is so large. I really like the unique story and the writing here.

And @deemarshall turns this into the tale of why she cannot cook eggs well. I have her same trouble so I can relate.

Prompt of the day “Beacon” - Shine Bright, Be The Light!

I liked the positivity that radiated from this post by @d00k13 It is indeed difficult to discover that we ourselves are the light when all the time we think that it is to be found outside.
He has done that and that is why he can explain it beautifully through this post. touchwood.
Please do read his post.

Thank you my friend!

Listen up everyone! @pixiehunter is back in the house! She wrote a beautiful story about her love for her son. He is all grown up now and you can feel her worries about letting go. Please head on over to her post and give her some love during this difficult time. https://steemit.com/freewritemonday/@pixiehunter/5-minute-freewrite-monday-prompt-beacon

Awww, what a great feeling to see my name pop out upon my return. Thank you so much my friend :) Hugs and ♥♥♥

I love that one too!

I loved this one: https://steempeak.com/freewrite/@carolkean/the-ha-ha-rooster-day-475-5-minute-freewrite-thursday-prompt-rooster . I usually am fond of @carolkean works - I have no idea how she gets so much down in five minutes! - but this one speaks volumes about a topic I love: chickens! Her short story has a ton of info in it. We learn how to catch the nasty rooster one had to run from (at night, with a hook, a crate and the kids), why it met its demise when it did ("One of his progeny did get escape our breakfast skillet and grew up to be a fine looking rooster, so the Ha-Ha Rooster went to the chopping block."), and ends with a nice capture of mixed feelings and the circle of life. There's only a couple more days to show the love on this one, so read it today!

LOL! I don't get much of anything down in only five minutes. I always cheat and go on, and on, and come back and revise.... but thank you so much for the kind words!!

Oh yes I remember you have already told me you are a cheat! Still love the story, the pics, the imagination. Wait, did your family raise chickens? How do you know so much about them if not? Intriguing....

Yes, yes, I grew up on a farm, and we raised chickens, pigs, milk cows, even sheep (before my time). We had another rooster named Weirdo who came to us from a high school science teacher who tested hatching time of eggs when radiation was used, and we volunteered to take the hatchlings. Most were normal enough, but we wondered if Weirdo had been "radiated" and mutated. He had a crooked neck. He was so friendly, we let him in the house more than once. Not a normal rooster!

@improv, I enjoy your stream-of-consciousness freewrites, but this shows us what you can do when you set out to create a story. Did you really do this in five minutes, no editing? I want to kidnap your Muse and put her to work for me!
Mount Balefire. There is always a beacon atop Mount Balefire. And down, into the canyon, though there are no roaming dogs, you will find the Cafe of shuttered windows. Love it. Great opening line.

I love this short, succinct-but-loaded, mythic fantasy. The tone is epic and sweeping, rich and timeless. There's even a crime noir vibe. Dogs no longer roam these streets: that is a telling detail, provocative, making me want to know what's left. Behind a shuttered window, a drenched old man, for there are only men and cats in this town - every single word on its own is a simple word, but put together, they convey so much more than meets the eye. You're a born writer @improv! You've got "it."

I enjoyed reading this story here by @nmcdougal94
https://steemit.com/freewrite/@nmcdougal94/freewrite-day-479-entry-prompt-beacon-w64hehas
Even with such a short read, it drew me in and made me feel as if I can see the boat, the fish, and the beacon, as if I were in that boat.

Thank you :) I'm very glad to hear my imagery evoked such a clear picture. That's the only downside to these being only 5 minutes, they're really short. But, it's kind of nice for the stories to end. It keeps them neat.
