[Last Week I Asked You] Competition + Personal Update

in #contest6 years ago (edited)

Last week I asked you to recommend a "bad" movie to me, and boy did you give me some good suggestions. I'm still currently working my way through the list sadly, so I won't be announcing the winners just yet. I'm expecting to post the results and mini-reviews for each movie early next week, as I have a commitment this weekend. I've been enjoying these little contests, and I hope to do them every week when I get back into posting regularly soon.

I haven't been on Steemit much over the past week or so, mostly just because I've been busy getting things done around the house and in the garden. I keep promising photo updates to some of you and have yet to deliver, I'm not in the habit of taking photo updates, but here are two for the time being.

The user @ceattlestretch posted about a great idea for a natural planter, so I decided to borrow the idea to start a bedding area. I recently chopped up a fallen apple tree we had, so there are piles of wood lying around that I've wanted to do something with. It's reinforced with some old untreated fence panels, and I'll be filling it in with some bedding plants and the compost I've been working on for two years now. Once I've finished the border, I'll be making a natural planter for the bottom of the track that runs aside our garden.

The lawn is recovering from our last batch of chickens who took great pleasure in tearing it up. That entire path had been covered by the lawn, so it took me a few days to carefully transplant the turf elsewhere. There's still the trunk of the fallen apple tree right at the bottom under the reclaimed street sign that I'll be testing out the chainsaw on, and I'll probably turn the logs into bug hotels. The chickens will be fenced in at the top of the garden so that we can reclaim the bottom. The veg patch and greenhouse are barren this year, as I've been focusing on getting the garden and track in good shape. The local birdlife certainly appreciate the thicker taller hedges!

I won't be posting much for the rest of this week, if at all, as I've got other things to be doing. However, I'll be back in full force from next week, and I'm looking forward to catching up with you all. I hope the weather is as pleasant where you are as it is here, very weird for England! Until next time, be good to each other!

Y'all's garden is so awesome! It's so organized but very natural looking. I did not see any garden gnomes, though.
Enjoy your time off and getting things done. I'm in the same mode here, it's almost summer and I'm really motivated to do some cleaning.

Ha that gave me a good laugh, quite an impressive freudian slip if I do say so myself!

Thanks! That is exactly what I'm going for, so it makes me happy to hear you say that! Sadly no garden gnomes (I do have some, they're just still at my parents house. Seems a shame to rehome them after a decade) but there's a couple of buddhas hidden around, a cat statue and a rabbit statue too. I've been meaning to get a gnome on a toilet, seems appropriate.

Yeah that's it! For once, I'm feeling motivated so I'm just trying to get as much done as possible. Tested out my new belt sander on the front porch, so that's ready for painting. I dunno how long this uncharacteristic motivation will stay for, so just gonna ride it out.
