Markings : Brown above with reddish brown tail; white below with dark spots; slowly raises and lowers tail.
Habitat : Summer - cool, moist, open mixed woods; wooded swamps and bogs; warm and dry pineland on coast of Long Island and New England; migration - city parks and suburban yards.
Seasons : Spring, summer, fall northward; fall, winter, spring in South.
Range : Breeds from Canada to n.e. U.S.,and in mountains to Tennessee and North Carolina; winters mainly in s. U.S. and Florida and Gulf of Mexico, north along coast, rarely to s. New England.
