Now that you’re facing up, you can see Agent Vyaises is wearing some kind of cross between a black suit and Wonder Woman’s costume.

“What’s it this time?” Machete asks, “Did you find our stash of Ramen noodles? I swear, we found ‘em on the side of the road.”

Vyaises shuffles some papers she pulled out of her pocket.

“Yes. Stealing $42,000 worth of Ramen noodles from a parked distribution truck is on the list. As well as, threatening a 78 year old woman with your guitar for taking an extra ketchup off your table at the Stay All Night Diner-”

“Hey, she asked for it! You don’t take people’s ketchup,” Machete says.

“ — in Toledo,” the agent continues, “Also causing a riot at the free sampler table in a Cost’em wholesale store. Destroying bee hives in Napa Valley-”

“They told me they just wanted to be free,” Tres comments.

“Crashing through the ceiling into the offices of Sonie executives, naked.” You all simultaneously moan at the memory.

“There’s also at least ten charges of fraud related to your band’s performances. I’m not going to read them all but let me assure you that if you went before a court, you’d be looking at life in prison. Maybe only 50-60 years if you found a sympathetic judge who also failed as a musician.”

“Now that’s not fair! We’re awesome musicians. Our fans love us!” Machete protests.

“Shut up,” you say.

“Listen to your friend here,” Agent Klesoce says while rolling you back and forth with her foot that’s still on your side.
“But you don’t have to worry about any of it, if you do what we ask,” says Vyaises.

“And what is that?” you ask.

“It’s simple really. There’s an isolated island out in the Pacific transmitting some very awkward, even disturbing, music videos. The bands are always masked, the audience is too. They play and dance in a twisted fashion, like they’re deformed.”

Agent Jatoybe pulls out photos from a folder and holds up still shots from the videos. You aren’t sure what you’re looking at, but you suddenly feel like you want to vomit. The creatures holding instruments look like a mix of dogs, cats, pigs, and jellyfish all at once. They’re grotesque.

“We have reason to believe the person in charge is preying upon failed musicians and committing crimes against nature. We want you to infiltrate the island and report back to us what you find. If you agree and succeed, these charges,” she waves the large pile of papers, “will disappear. You’ll be free from your pasts.”

“And if we don’t?” you ask.

“Go directly to jail, no stopping at Go. Or anywhere else. Ever.”

You and your bandmates are silent for a few minutes. You look at Tio. He nods. Machete nods next. Tres is still staring silently at a white wall.

“Hey Tres, what do you say?” you ask.

“Not much choice is there?” he says.

“No,” you and the other band members say.

“Good!” Says Agent Vyaises. “Let’s get started.”
