Can you exist in Steemit without contests?

Best answer 1 SBD just because. (Post payout is when I payout to the winner :))

If you take advantage of the contests as a new member or even an old one you can build Steem quicker and make more friends. Anyway, that is my experience in the past. A few months ago I quit with all the contests. I do plan on getting involved in some of the challenges. It is just that time goes so fast and I can’t keep up with what is on what day.

That is except for today which is #TDIF (Thank Dog Its Friday). I know most don’t care but it keeps me coming back. You don’t win anything, however, my decision is to recognize those participating. I already do by upvoting and later resteeming into @photobe where I will be doing my #TDIF post today.

Here are the current participants over the last few weeks:
@foxyspirit
@traveladventures
@jason7282
@photobe
@plantstoplanks
@rebeccabe
NEW: @brittandjosie (I will be checking it out)

Love you guys!!!!

I remember a phase when I was a happy little plankton where i would browse the #contest tag to hope to find contests to win and increase my teeny stake. It kind of opened my eyes to the possibilities of giving back and encouraging engagement.

The greatest thing about the contests turned out to be the people I met that became part of my longer term friends network.

So, the answer is probably yes I could live without them here through brute force content and networking. Just makes it so much more rewarding and dynamic for the new folks though.

I enter them now more for the engagement and networking and kindly ask you pass on my brilliant comment and award someone with less than 1000 sp. ;)

thanks a lot :)

Did I say 1000 sp .. lol
I bet you wouldn't pass that up.
Engagement with you for sure ... same here. :) great answer though @zekepickleman

I used to do contests and host them, but I had a few bad and unsettling experiences and just stopped. Between the outright abuse and the people who just came along begging, I got annoied after downvoting a few jerks and it wasn't fun for me. My prizes were decent and I never asked for an upvote or resteem or follow, but contest abuse is another issue.
I join a few contests regularly, but it is about the community for me and I would still do it without the prize. To be honest, 10 steem is like 3 dollars which isnt really worth more than 10 minutes of my time. Thisbcomment took longer to write and I don't expect anything for it .

I agree with you @abitcoinskeptic if you do anything in here for the money it is really not worth it anymore. That is unless you have lots of crypto in your account then I can see how it could be more fun.

You are definitely in the running for your honest comment. I appreciate your time.

🎁 Hi @abitcoinskeptic! You have received 0.1 SBD tip from @rebeccabe!

Sending tips with @tipU - how to guide :)

Yes this can work also... you need to be very open here this helps also lot. And one more thing, be you not try be some one other.

I agree with you. Being open is always not so easy for me.

I think I share similar sentiments to @zekepickleman. Contests definitely helped me find my "people" on here and helped me grown when I was new. They can be a great way to start creating content when you're not sure what you want to write about. I think I help host more contests now than I enter, but I still enjoy jumping in when I get the chance! I find it is a great way to sometimes branch out of my usual content and share something a little more personal at times.

I think if you get involved with communities early on then perhaps contests are not a must as you can still interact with many different people. But when you look most of the main communities do also host weekly or monthly contests as a way to get all of the members engaged. So I guess it is kind of hard for me to imagine Steem without contests and challenges. Even ones with no "prize" often tend to do really well just because they bring people together. :)

This answer is looking good too.
I used to host contests a long time ago and really it can be a lot of work but can help build a following.

Not sure that quality gets rewarded; starting to feel why bother

Quality does get rewarded but like anything else it depends. That is why I shoot for fun or whatever I feel like then it doesn't matter so much.

I believe contest serve a good purpose to steemit. I joined plenty and hosted plenty of them to get know people. If I remember correctly I think you were tagged in one of my contest! Overall I think it’s worth it even if you only get to know one person. Mainly everyone disappears after the contest. I do believe contest are necessary for steemit to make the community communicate more.

Hey @jason7282 I have not been in a contest mood in some time lol
I do agree with what you say.

When I was a newbie, I joined alot, I mean ALOT of contests. It gave me the idea what to post next as well as getting to know more people writing the same genre or title. So contests is like peanut butter to the sandwich, so to speak.

And #TDIF should work well since they are many dogs lovers here.

❤️👍

@iamjadeline So nice of you to say that about #TDIF as I cannot seem to get traction to get it going. For now, it is me and one or maybe two others. I agree with what you say about contests as a newbie.
