As you may remember from way back, we made a whole bunch of lasagnas from scratch and froze them for some good eating in the future. Some were vegetarian and some were beef, but all were good ;) We have been making our way through them and have a few left to get through before we go another round.

Each serving of lasagna itself is approximately $1 (its less but im rounding up). we paired this with garlic'n'herb bread and salad bringing the total to around $2 (again being generous on the calculations). Much of these additional costs could be reduced again if we used home made bread and garden grown veggies.

What this demonstrates is the incredible mark up we are paying for on eating out and "fine dining", lolz. I also know 100% of what has gone into my food as it has been made right here in house under my own supervision.... yes , no teenage punk with a disdain for authority has dropped my food on the ground and dusted it off to serve, lolz.

I have written articles on how to make this lasagna and garlic'n'herb bread in the past if you would like to replicate these results and save money, time and effort with bulk cooking in the kitchen. The salad is simple enough and is just lettuce, tomato, cucumber, tasty cheese and coleslaw dressing.

I tell ya what, there is nothing like a good home cooked meal....

Mmm I love making garlic bread like that! And I love salad and lasagna too! ;) But I'm a bread girl! My friend made some homemade french bread and sliced it up for garlic bread on my bday! It was so yummy!

home made food is the BEST!!! its almost like i refuse to eat anything else.... well i do... but reluctantly, lolz. oh that sounds like a great way to spend your birthday, great food, great friends, great life :)

Homemade is my fav too, although in this fast paced world we unfortunately eat fast food once in a while. Too often for my taste, but you know how it is when you just don't have time some days...

we tend to do bulk cooks and freeze them for later, i post articles about it from time to time. there are a number of staples that work well like lasagna, pies (sheppards, chicken pot, mexicana, etc), gnocchi, perogies, canneloni and quite a few more. we usually have a cook off weekend that will keep us stocked for a good 3 months or so. It also saves on time , effort, money and cleaning up as well , top deal if you ask me :)

I've seen some of your posts about that! It is a great idea! And gnocchi!!!! MMMMMM!!!! I need to learn how to make that! ;) We also need a bigger freezer because our meat for the week and a few popsicles fill up our freezer... but that will be fixed soon I hope! We're going to be getting a bigger fridge as soon as we can afford it.

Yeah we started with a real small fridge/frezer combo ourselves, but with the money we were saving using some of the methods i have covered in my posts, we managed to buy a bigger fridge/frezer combo off ebay for a bit over 100 bucks. Then we ran both of them till we could afford a chest freezer.

Now we rocking it hard, we keep food to last us 3-4 months (apocalypse ready), bulk buying the food is also a saving. Its a bit of a process, but once its up and running you really see how much better home style food is, how much cheaper it is, better its tastes, etc. nom, nom, nom :)

Haha!!! Yeah that's a lot of planning... although it seems like it's worth it. We are also looking into a chest freezer that we can put on the back porch for storage as well. Then hopefully we can figure out some sort of process like this to do and save that money!!! ;)

Nah once you have the routine down pat it just becomes the standard way of doing things. We went shopping on the weekend and spent $650 on groceries, that will last us 3-4 months (more if we try), we also save money on the fuel for multiple trips to the shops, and also on cleaning of pots and pans (cook once eat 10 times), there is heaps more which is of benefit too.

Well feel free to give me a holler when you get started, im more than happy to give you some hints and tips. i would also suggest checking out some of my older articles on it as i mention some of the benefits of using this process. there is a lot of money, time and effort to be saved
