GekeVenn: NESTLÉ

in #corporatism6 years ago

Nestlé is in the news today as it announced a $7.2 billion deal with Starbucks allowing it to sell Starbucks packaged coffees in stores. But as we acknowledge its new expansion further into the coffee market, it's useful to remember that nestle pays $200 a year to bottle water in Michigan near the city of Flint, where citizens have been dealing with a water supply contaminated with lead. (See the Shadow Ties venn below showing a pertinent connection between Nestlé and Michigan's Governor Snyder.)

Switzerland-based Nestlé SA is the world's largest food and beverage company. Last year it cleared close to $90 billion in global sales. It runs factories in at least 86 countries, exports to 196 countries, and employs nearly 340,000 people. The “SA” stands for société anonyme, which is roughly equivalent to a public shares company here in the States.

Of note on the venn is lobbyist Kelsey Freeman. According to her self description on LinkedIn, while working in the government, Freeman “Focused primarily on healthcare and agriculture... Worked on commodity pricing issues, specifically sugar and dairy, within the Farm Bill...”

Nestlé board member Ann Veneman was, of course, a former USDA Secretary, but she's held various positions within the USDA nonconsecutively since 1986. Veneman received a lot of public flack when she joined Nestle's board in 2011 not only because of her positions at the USDA but also for her connection to UNICEF, in light of Nestlé's baby formula marketing scandal.

A while back I produced a shadow venn (below) highlighting the corporation's connections to the FDA and Michigan Governor Rick Snyder. These are ties that don't belong in a regular GekeVenn because the person listed didn't work for the government; they're simply tied in some way to relevant regulators.

Really Netsle is the largest food and beverage company in the world.

ugh! the bigger these companies get, the more evil they get.. and they are just eating each other up like whales these days..

one day it will ALL be owned by one company if we continue like this..
I was just reading a post by @trucklife-family about them pushing their baby milk formula on women in poverty.. causing them to underfeed their children as they cant even afford the product.

keep up the great work Geke..
