How much did the military spend yesterday? $1.07 billion - a quarter of which went to an Alaskan tribe subsidiary in a continuing trend of tribal "government to government" relations
Yesterday's big winner was KIRA Training Services with a $221 million contract for civil engineering at the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs. The contract was competitively procured with 12 bids received. KIRA is a subsidiary of Tlingit Haida Tribal Business Corporation, a corporation owned by the Tlingit and Haida Indian Tribes of Alaska. The organization claims a “government to government relationship with the United States” on its website.
It's an interesting trend that many Native American tribes are beginning to work with both government contractors and the federal government, itself, the most notable example being the Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe that attempted to collude with the pharmaceutical company Allergan to preserve the expiring patent of the drug Restasis.
