Extracting Bees Wax From Honey Combs! Step 2.

Hey everyone, I trust you are having a pleasant Saturday? Wow, what a process this was, the next time I render out wax from honey combs I plan to do it another way. A solar cooker I hear works a dream, way less work and mess. Never the less much was learnt by this and I ultimately succeeded.

So after all the boiling of the combs on an open fire (a little water was added to this mixture as to prevent the wax burning) was done I proceeded to the next step!

At this point it pretty much looks like a burnt pot of goo, and technically it was but...

A hidden gem, a rough diamond lay between..

Glorious bright yellow virgin bees wax a substance almost as versatile as honey itself!

What I did was (no where near the correct way to do this) heated the mixture up again to boiling point and then poured it all through some shade cloth into old yoghurt containers, a dark liquid appeared. At first I thought to myself you have certainly burnt this to a crisp this time Craig, but alas..

It began to set, an interesting transformation whilst it did so. From a pitch black liquid to a brownish yellow wax. Proper wax, the best wax, bees wax!

Naturally like cats to catnip the bees were here in a jiffy and harvesting away, I had to capture the moment!

After a few hours this whole litre odd of liquid had now set and solidified and was ready to be used for anything from candles, to cosmetics to moisturizer.
