MYTHS AND FACTS ABOUT SEXUALITY

Introduction

Good day steemit community. In this article, am going to explore what sexuality is all about. The area that is germane to this article is the myths and facts about sexuality. This article will focus more attention to the Teens. It will help the teens to understand what sexuality is all about. Next it will help them in clarifying the general or common myths about sexuality. It will also help the parents in knowing the value of Virginity and to properly teach their children. This will also help the youths to understand the harms and dangers of pre-marital sex.

Myths are opinions, beliefs, misconceptions and traditional stories thought to be facts. They are misconceptions usually fictions, half-truths or fictitious stories widely believed but untrue and unproven. For that reason, they need to be demystified and thereby neutralized along with their effects on individuals. A fact on the other hand is knowledge or information based on real occurrences, demonstrated to exist or known to have existed. A truth can be proven from experience or observation, reality, a statement or assertion of verified information about something that has happened.

These definitions have been given here in
details so that there is no doubt about what they mean. Because myths are baseless untruths that have been created to justify and perpetrate untruths which are mostly harmful, apart from the fact that most people start having sex because of them, they must therefore be demystified and discarded. The sympathetic attitude of people towards sex must be reviewed and discarded and it must be clearly understood that sexual pressures (The desire to have sex) has sources and is not just an instinct because most teens start having sex because of these incorrect information or the influence of people that perpetrate those information. Generally, toll has been taken to confirm that one of the factors that influence the incidence of teenage sex especially among females is that, males will say anything to a female to convince her to have sex, and the females believe because of the lack of counteracting information. There is a need for that status quo to be corrected.

About Abstinence

To abstain, mean to keep oneself from some indulgence. Abstinence there is the act of keeping oneself from some indulgence, in this case the indulgence being sexual intercourse. Sexual abstinence as an option to premarital sex should be practiced among teens and is even already being practiced by a relatively large number of them at this time due to increase in knowledge and information which is causing more teens to refrain from it. That premarital sex has consequences is a fact, the consequences of which has not and will not change, they will only get worse. As has been earlier stated, the consequences range from physical/health to emotional, psychological, mental and even spiritual, and this is why abstinence as an option is being propagated.

Abstinence from sex is not boring, neither is it outdated, in fact, it is more in vogue now than ever and it does no harm to you unlike premarital sex which is one of the factors increasing the incidence of diseases like HIV/AIDS known to be causing worldwide devastation.

The option of remaining a virgin is a very viable option, and this is not limited to females only, but also should be applicable to males especially in a culture and world that says premarital sex is not only ok, but in fact must be practiced by males to prove their manhood- I am wondering why a singular action of having sexual intercourse should be the proof of worth! Is it that males are excluded from the consequences such as sexually transmitted infections including HIV/AIDS? If even they are excluded from consequences like teenage pregnancies are they excluded from all other consequences? Has the use of palliatives like condom been able to eliminate the incidence of HIV/AIDS among males? Are you prepared to cope with this dreadful scourge? These are the questions that you as a teenager will need to examine answer to yourself because ultimately, only you can make that very important decision concerning the issue of premarital sex.

Virginity is not just a virtue; it is a “device” that protects you from most of the issues that accompany teenage sex. There is a burden that accompanies the loss of virginity as a result of premarital sex which is particularly prominent among females and that is a burden you have to carry for a long time. Most if not all women that have indulged in it, realize a lack of readiness on their part accompanied by a sense of regret anytime the issue of virginity comes up. Is that one of the issues you want to have to deal with in life? As if there aren’t enough to cope with under normal circumstances.

What you do with your sexuality even though it is primarily your business, doesn’t remain just your business anymore contrary to what people say. It affects your peers, your loved ones. Your country and even the whole world now and in future because for every person that makes a decision to abstain, the incidence of HIV/ADS is reduced if only fractionally.

There is a dire need for a review and readjustment of the larger percentage of people’s perception about premarital sex and the only other option is abstinence, primary or secondary, not other palliatives being presented as options! This is not to say however that condom do not have there place and usefulness.

Ours in a word where sex is used, abused and paraded as a marketing strategy for almost anything and so far this has not yielded much positive results.

Sex is not for children or teenagers, and that is a well-known fact which is why all kinds of pressures are being exerted on them to have sex. These pressures are often subtle coming n form of myths, lies, peer and even adult and other influences are being used, some even resort to violence.

Note: Dear teen, you may not be able to stop traders of and in sex from selling sex to you, but you do not have to buy it. The choice is yours.

MYTHS AND FACTS ABOUT ABSTINENCE

Myth: If you don’t use it, you’ll lose it (meaning, if you don’t have sex you’ll become impotent), others say you need to “test drive” your sexual abilities.
Fact: That is very untrue. All that will happen if you do not have engage in premarital sex is that you’ll save yourself from issues that accompanying teenage sex such as teenage pregnancy, STIs including HIV etc. Trust me; you do not need to “test drive”. Apart from the fact that you are not a car, your virility as a man can be determined by other means such as, do you have erections? Have you experienced sexual desire towards a female? Have you had wet dreams at any point in time in your life? If the answer to these questions is in the affirmative, I will say you are virile. You can ask for further information from a Doctor.

Myth: Adolescents who abstain from having sex are abnormal
Fact: Adolescents who are not having sex are not abnormal; rather they have looked at their options and decided that they are not yet ready to have sex or to cope with the problems that may arise as a result of premarital sex.

Myth: Abstinence causes pain in the testicles and stomach after a while.
Fact: This is not so. If you are feeling pains in the testicles you need to see a doctor to ascertain the cause of pain

Myth: Abstinence will cause impotency and inability to conceive in the future.
Fact: This is not so, rather abstinence will protect you from having sexually Transmitted Diseases (STIs) which is the commonest cause of infertility.

Myth: Abstinence will cause inability to relate to the opposite sex.
Fact: Abstinence will help you to develop pride and confidence in yourself which will help you to better relate not only to members of the opposite sex, but also members of your own sex.

Myth: You can never be smart until you have had sex.
Fact: This is not true. Abstinence will keep you from the distractions of having premarital sex and the attendant problems which will not only deplete your intellectual capability, but also your ability to focus. Being smart or being dull has nothing to do with having or not having sex.

Myth: Abstinence causes females to have small breasts.
Fact: The size of the breasts is determined by the genes and has nothing to do with having sex or not having sex.

Myth: A male must have sex and ejaculate regularly so that sperm will not accumulate in his stomach.
Fact: This is not true. Semen does not accumulate in the stomach. Stored semen in the seminal vesicle will be emitted normally during wet dreams.

Myth: Abstinence makes the female less active later in life.
Fact: This is untrue. Abstinence does not make the female less active later in life.
Myth: Having sex is an instinct and cannot be controlled

Fact: Having sex is not an instinct and it can definitely be controlled.
Myth: You need to use what you have to get what you don’t have.

Fact: Using your sexuality or sex as a bargaining or trading tool is another term for prostitution. This statement is perpetrated to make you believe that you cannot acquire money by legitimate means like working. Believing this will not only lure you into prostitution, but also expose you to other issues that accompany premarital sex, not to mention the loss of self-esteem you will experience.

Myth: Having Sex increases the size of penis.
Fact: Having sex does not have anything to do with the size of the penis. The size of the penis is determined by the genes. The size of the penis only increases when erect and during sexual activity and goes back to normal afterwards.

Myth: Men do not like virgins because they are inexperienced at having sex.
Fact: This is not true. Men prefer to marry virgins and even some cultures make it compulsory.

Myth: if a female is not circumcised, she will become promiscuous.
Fact: Promiscuity is as a result of ignorance to the dangers of being promiscuous. Circumcision does not have any value in preserving virtue; rather it is dangerous to the health. It may cause damage to the bladder and anus causing incontinence. It may also cause excessive bleeding leading to death. It may also cause scarring of the birth canal resulting in difficulty for a baby to pass through in future. Infertility may also arise as a result of infection during the process of circumcision. Painful sexual intercourse when the girl matures, infection with HIV/AIDS from cutting instrument or tetanus leading to death.

In conclusion, can you imagine or believe that there are so many myths and misconceptions? Avoid believing or practicing any of these myths because they have no advantage whatsoever rather they complicate or even endanger your life and compromise your future. Their practice causes problems that will affect you not only now but in the future.
Above all, SEX DOES NOT TAKE YOUR RELATIONSHIP TO THE NEXT LEVEL.
